Here we are. The biggest game of the 2014/15 season is today. Bayern Munich and Barcelona will collide in the Allianz Arena to decide who is going to Berlin to play the Champions League Final. After winning 3-0 at home on the first leg, the Blaugrana carry a gigantic advantage over Pep Guardiola and the Bavarian.
Perhaps more than any other game, the tactical decisions made by Guardiola and Luis Enrique are going to play an important role on the outcome of the match. So let's try to enter the mind of each manager and try to figure out which eleven players they are lining up to start the big game:
Starting with the hosts:
Bayern Munich (3-4-3):
Neuer
Boateng, Benatia, Rafinha
Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Alonso, Bernat
Müller, Lewandowski, Götze
Gosh, it's always impossible to predict a Pep Guardiola lineup, especially with the necessity to attack tomorrow. But with the narrow options on the squad and Sebastian Rode not being exactly fit to start, I would bet Pep swaps Thiago for Götze to give the Bavarians a little more firepower.
That being said, Thiago is the best Bayern player since returning from injury, so it would be kind of foolish to assume he's going to be on the bench. But hey, Pep is Pep and you'll never understand him.
Barcelona (4-3-3):
Ter Stegen
Alves, Piqué, Mascherano, Alba
Rakitic, Busquets, Iniesta
Messi, Suárez, Neymar
This is easy. There's simply no reason to change the most successful lineup in a very long time. There's no card accumulation to worry about, since all bookings were scratched after the quarter-finals. Nobody is injured, which doesn't require a lineup change to preserve someone's health.
Plus, this is a perfect starting XI to defend the crazy attacking system that Bayern is probably unleashing tomorrow, while also getting ready to counter attack as soon as a mistake happens on the red side of the ball. Just give the baby to MSN and let them take the team to Berlin.
