We have got some more developments on the Ilkay Gündogan Situation.
Sources told Barça Blaugranes on Wednesday that the Borussia Dortmund midfielder is now fully committed to signing with Barcelona in 2016, once the transfer ban gets lifted and the Blaugrana are finally able to buy and register players. The 24-year-old met with his representatives earlier this week and decided to stick around until the end of his contract, which runs out on the summer of 2016, which would require a January departure to give the German team some profit.
Also according to sources, Barça sporting director Ariedo Braida stayed in Germany after the game against Bayern Munich, and he plans to meet with Dortmund representatives to work on the final details. The deal is very likely to come to fruition this summer, and contract talks have already started separately with Gundogan.
The only disagreement between the two clubs is the amount wanted by Die Borussien, who is asking for at least €40 million, but the Catalan club is not going higher than €32 million, sources say. Barça could try to offer a deal similar to the one it has with Arsenal on the Thomas Vermaelen signing, in which they have to pay an extra €3,2 million if the team wins the UEFA Champions League Final next June as part of the bonus option on the contract agreed with the Gunners. That would be an alternative they could throw at Dortmund in the Gundogan talks, although there is no indication that such offer has been made so far.
But, as far as BB has learned, the deal is more and more likely to come true as the talks continue to advance between the two parts. If this deal doesn’t happen, however, there is a few options for a Plan B, especially Mateo Kovacic and Marco Verratti.
One more thing in terms of legality and not making FIFA mad: if Barça signs with Gundogan, it would be smart if they didn't announce it. Technically, they can as long as they don't register it on FIFA's database, but doing that would be a sort of dumb challenge that could lead to more problems. The Blaugrana are more likely to act like they did with Ter Stegen last summer, having a wink-wink deal that doesn't get announced but is already done.
