According to reports from Spain, and Madrid's favourite newspaper, Marca, Real Madrid are planning an audacious swoop to sign suspended FC Barcelona youth-team star, Seung-Woo Lee
On the field, in the transfer market...even politically; Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are rivals in every sense of the word, often representing two contrasting philosophies as football clubs. While FC Barcelona has found recent success by looking to it's fabled La Masia youth system, Real Madrid continues to struggle with the development of it's own home-grown talent. In fact, the last product of La Fabrica to establish themselves as a regular in the famous Los Blancos jersey directly after promotion from Real Madrid Castilla was Iker Casillas -- and that was way back before the turn of the millenium.
However, under the guidance of Carlo Ancelotti and with Florentino Perez seemingly content to quietly revive the modern day equivalent of his failed Zidanes y Pavones policy, Real have been making moves to rectify their failings. Only recently, Madrid pipped FC Barcelona and a whole host of leading European clubs to the signing of Norwegian wonderkid, Martin Odegaard. The talented midfielder is set to finish this season under Zidane in the third tier at Castilla -- and if reports are to be believed, Real are trying to step up their youth recruitment further still with an ambitious raid on La Masia.
After all, if you can't beat them, why not join them? Accepting that Barcelona are simply far more adept at discovering potential talent of the future, Real are said to be trying to lure South Korean starlet Seung-Woo Lee to Valdebebas. The move is sure to spark fury amongst Cules and with the Barcelona management, although it's worth noting again that nothing has been confirmed and at this stage, these are merely rumours.
Either way, Seung-Woo Lee has plenty of time to make his decision; the Korean youth international is banned from featuring in competitive matches until he turns 18 in early 2016. All signals from FC Barcelona suggest that the club are happy to stick by their man until that suspension ends; the question is: will Seung-Woo Lee repay them that loyalty by rebuffing Real's advances?
