Marco Reus Will Not Be Joining FC Barcelona

Speaking to Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo, Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus played down the possibility of a switch to Catalunya, dismissing talk that he is ready to sign for FC Barcelona

Isn't it interesting that we still need to debunk transfer rumours? After all, FC Barcelona are supposed to be banned from signing and registering any new players until January 2016, which theoretically, should render their upcoming transfer window as a complete waste of time. Yet, here we are: another day, another rumour. This time the media have reverted to an old favourite featuring everyone's favourite winger, Marco Reus. Apparently, there was a possibility that the German international was going to sign for FC Barcelona.

Yes, it's true that Reus will be available in the summer for a cut-price fee thanks to the rather sneaky inclusion of a lowered buyout clause. It's also true that Reus is an outstanding player and that FC Barcelona -- when active in the transfer window -- like to sign outstanding players. Bargain transfer fee...world-class player; I can see why the media and indeed some Barcelona fans have made the link. Oh yeah, and I suppose we simply can't go any further without mentioning *that tweet*. You know the one; that same tweet that gets periodically and nauseatingly re-tweeted back onto your timeline at opportune moments?

Well, leaving the tenuous links and this infamous tweet to one side, Reus himself was asked about the possibility of a move to the Camp Nou; his response?

"Where would I play at a club where the attack is made up of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar?"

The answer Marco? You wouldn't! As talented a player as Marco Reus is, he's clearly not on the level of Lionel Messi or Neymar, leaving him to hypothetically contend with Luis Suarez. Sure, the Uruguayan hasn't been able to replicate his Liverpool form with the Blaugrana, but tactically, his inclusion as a pure nine totally transforms the dynamic of this current FC Barcelona outfit.

The bottom line is this: FC Barcelona have better options than Marco Reus, and Marco Reus has better options than FC Barcelona -- this is one move we can be certain won't happen, but all the same, I'm looking forward to reading all these rumours again in a few months.
