He wants to do it, which is awesome.
Whether you're a fan of Luis Enrique or not, his position as Barcelona coach will not last forever. If/when he steps down and leaves his boss chair, we might already have a substitute. And there's probably no better candidate than Xavi Hernández.
In an interview to Catalan TV channel TV3, the legendary Barça midfielder talked about his future in football, and he is contemplating the possibility of managing his favorite club in a not so distant future. If he becomes Barça's boss in a few years, he wants to be ready for it:
"I want to be a manager, yes. I want to study and graduate as a football coach, I want to learn the English language, get experienced as a coach and get ready for this new career both as a football professional and a human being. And, if the opportunity presents itself, of course I would want to do it at Barça. I want to stay connected to football, and if I could do it in my club, it would be great.
I contemplated leaving Barça this summer. A lot of things happened a few months ago and I thought that maybe it was time to go away, but ultimately my feelings towards this institution made me stay. The board also had a big impact in my decision.
I don't thing I'll be playing for too long. I'll be 35 by January, so I want to enjoy these last moments as a footballer on the pitch, and then study to remain a footballer, this time as a coach."

How great is that? Xavi was supposed to be a coach all along, it is clear. That he wants to do it, even better. On the other hand, it'll be sad to see him retire from playing.
