The Blancos seem invincible and favorites to win it all, while the Catalans suffered, but are back on track.
If you're a fan of Spanish football, you are a lucky person. Eleven rounds are in the books, and La Liga is simply the best league in years. Only seven points separate the leaders and the seventh-ranked team, one of the smallest gaps of this century.
And though the competitiveness of this season is evident and surprising, we see the usual scene at the top of the standings. The two biggest teams in Spain are the two leaders, as we would expect. They are in different places, not only in the league table, but also psychologically. The Blancos are in an incredible hot streak, with thirteen straight wins in all competitions. Real Madrid have scored an astonishing total of 42 goals in eleven domestic games, and are the clear favorites to win it all.
Their adversary, and biggest rivals, are in a totally different situations. After winning seven of their first eight games without conceding a single goal, the Catalans lost two in a row, including a depressing loss in the world's biggest derby. Then, Barcelona lost at home while delivering one of the worst performances in recent memory. Two wins in a row have improved the situation, but Barça still far away from ready to challenge Madrid for the title. However, as this start of La Liga has showed us, anything can happen, even though the scenario seems familiar. We'll see what happens, but we'll have to wait two weeks to watch the next chapters of this amazing story. Thanks, international break!
