Barcelona vs. Las Palmas suspended due to Catalan Referendum - Reports

The madness in the city has impacted the club’s decision

Today’s La Liga match between FC Barcelona and Las Palmas at Camp Nou has been suspended, according to multiple reports. The decision has been made in light of the unsafe conditions in the city of Barcelona due to the Catalan Referendum that will choose whether or not the Catalonia region will become independent of the country of Spain.

The Spanish government has claimed the vote is illegal and will not recognize it, and there are riots all over the city as the police tries to intervene and stop the Catalans from voting. Las Palmas added more fuel to the fire by announcing they would wear a Spanish flag on their kit, and Barcelona were really concerned about the safety of players and fans at the Camp Nou.

FC Barcelona will forfeit the three points from today’s match by suspending it, and they could be facing some harsh penalties from the Spanish Football Federation. But the club wanted to show support to the people of Barcelona, and players like Gerard Piqué have spoken opently in favor of the referendum, which shows the club’s position on the matter.

We’ll have more developments of this story as they happen, but what we do know is that Barcelona vs. Las Palmas will NOT happen today.
