Here’s how the team fared
Jasper Cillessen
A decent showing from the Dutchman despite the occasional lapses in concentration. Cillessen did not have a pair of steady hands to keep the ball but his shot stopping was on point.
6/10
Nelson Semedo
Semedo was probably one of the most talented players on the pitch but a lack of positional awareness meant that he wasn't as involved in attack. Semedo has shown that he's capable of cutting inside which was in stark contrast to last night where he stuck to his lines in the hope of combining with a rather tunnel-visioned Deulofeu.
6/10
Javier Mascherano
A defensive wall for the entire 90, El Jefecito oozed class and kept danger at bay on a steady basis.
7/10
Thomas Vermaelen
Decent stuff from the Belgian who had his moments. Coming back from a rather long injury spell, this game was a good one to come back in. Vermaelen had some good clearances and complemented Mascherano to the tee.
6/10
Lucas Digne
Digne had some good runs and looked much better as the game went on. His ability to add something different was on display as he created a few chances with intelligent crosses.
6.5/10
Andre Gomes
Seemed invisible for a lot of the game with rather uninspiring play. He was not setting the world on fire and a look at his opponents puts this performance in perspective.
5/10
Denis Suarez
Had some decent moments but was once again uninspiring in midfield. A sub in the second half allowed him a bit of leeway but this wasn't a performance to remember.
6/10
Carles Alena
Probably the brightest spot of the night, Alena proved why he's been so hyped. Calm and composed, Alena is exactly what the first team is screaming for at the moment.
8/10
Gerard Deulofeu
Did his shtick and ran like he was rollerblading. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. His goal was an excellent solo attempt and adaptation over the course of the match was admirable despite the frustrating first half.
7/10
Jose Arnaiz
Lacked decision making and was often choosing to play things safe. However, his moments were incredible despite being so few. The turn inside the box failed to deliver 6.5/10
Paco Alcacer
Showed good movement in the box which resulted in him breaking the deadlock. He's a striker—goals are the only thing that matter.
7/10
Sergi Roberto
Decent in the second half, but nothing too noteworthy.
N/A
Ivan Rakitic
Came on with Roberto and had a decent outing against a rather demotivated opposition.
N/A
Marc Cucurella
Had a decent seven or eights minutes on the pitch and showed great positional awareness during Murcia-attacks.
N/A
The Team
A rather disjointed effort that delivered either way.
6/10
Ernesto Valverde
Should have probably played Cucurella a little sooner but that's about it. Made good subs and his line-up left little to debate.
8/10
Man of the match
Young but with a wise head on his shoulders, Alena was impressive as the maestro against Murcia.
