After a grueling two weeks of international football, Barcelona return to action looking to continue their perfect start to the La Liga season today, but it will not be easy. Not at all.
The Blaugrana travel to the incredible Wanda Metropolitano, the new home of Atlético Madrid, in the first real test of the campaign for the Catalan giants. Even though they’ve won their first seven games of the league season, Barça haven’t really faced a top team so far. That changes today.
It’s undeniable that Atlético Madrid are one of the top teams in Europe, and Diego Simeone always relishes the opportunity to face Barcelona. Atleti have already made the Wanda their new home, and Antoine Griezmann is ready to create plenty of problems for the league leaders.
For Barça, this is a big opportunity to answer all the critics. Many have said that the team hasn’t played at a high level so far, and they’ll lose in the first real test. Beating Atlético will prove that Ernesto Valverde’s team can play well against anyone, and it’ll show that Barça’s perfect start is not a fluke.
This is also an opportunity for football fans to watch Lionel Messi. After carrying Argentina to a World Cup earlier this week, Messi will be ready to give Barça the win today, and you really should not miss this game.
