Valverde praises ‘slick’ Arnaiz but did he do enough to impress?

Could the youngster force his way into the team?

Ernesto Valverde has talked up Jose Arnaiz recently and it was little surprise to see the 22-year-old handed a start against Murcia in the Copa del Rey.

He will have taken many of the headlines too, with a debut goal, and a strong showing on the left of the attack as Barcelona eased to a comfortable 3-0 win.

And what of Valverde? Well after the match he spoke about Arnaiz as well as other B team stars Carles Alena and Marc Cucurella who also featured.

"Arnaiz has confidence, he's good in one-on-one situations, has a good shot... Without space, he struggled, but in the second half, when the opposition opened up, he was able to show off his best qualities. When he gets the ball in front of him, he has scoring in his head.

"They [Alena, Arnaiz & Cucurella] are all players we think can help us. They're with the B team, but this is the first step. Let's see if they can help us in the future, too."

So will we get to see Arnaiz again any time soon, or will he have to wait until the second leg against Murcia at the end of November?

The youngster has already scored four times for Barcelona B since joining from Valladolid over the summer, before last night’s debut goal for the first-team.

And despite Barca’s unbeaten start to the season, the attack is still far from convincing, other than Messi of course.

Luis Suarez is woefully out of form, Gerard Deulofeu has yet to convince he can make the grade at Camp Nou, and Ousmane Dembele’s injury has left an opening.

Arnaiz is 22 and while it’s still very much uncertain whether he has enough to succeed at Barcelona, Tuesday’s display is certainly a step in the right direction.
