Liverpool rejected €100 million offer from Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho - Report

This is the second time Liverpool have said no to a Barça bid for the Brazilian

According to a report from RMC, Liverpool have rejected a €100 million offer from Barcelona for midfielder Philippe Coutinho. The Reds had already said no to an €80 million bid from Barça two weeks ago, and it seems the English club will not agree to sell their top player unless the Blaugrana make a ridiculous bid of over €150 million.

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp said Monday that Coutinho is not for sale, and this indeed seems to be the case. Coutinho has been Barça’s major target this summer after it became clear that Paris Saint-Germain would not listen to any offers for Marco Verratti, and regardless of the Neymar situation, Barça wanted to sign Coutinho since the started of the transfer window.

Now that Neymar is indeed leaving, signing Coutinho becomes the biggest priority for the Catalans given the Liverpool star can play in Neymar’s position and is also able to play in midfield. It seems like this particular saga will take the entire month of August to be solved, but if Barça decide to invest a portion of Neymar’s money on Coutinho, this saga will end with a happy ending for the Blaugrana.

The Story of Luis Figo: Barcelona Hero Turned Public Enemy #1 After Joining Real Madrid

Even Neymar’s transfer to PSG would pale in comparison

Neymar has made Barcelona fans angry. He’s even made his teammates angry, according to Diario SPORT. His imminent transfer to Paris Saint-Germain has been carried out in such a way that people are sick of him.

But all of that doesn’t compare to Luis Figo’s transfer in July 2000. He was Barcelona’s best player, and arguably, the best in the world at the time. And he left for Real Madrid.

In the past, players had moved between Real Madrid and Barcelona, and it wasn’t that big of a deal. For example, in 1994, Michael Laudrup went from Barça to Madrid. Barcelona fans still like him.

To understand why Figo’s situation was different, we have to look at how it went down.

Figo had helped the Blaugrana win successive La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, among other trophies. He wasn’t just a star for Barça, he was the star.

But when Figo returned to the Camp Nou in a white shirt, it was chaos. Fans threw objects at the player, most famously, a pig’s head. The hate for him would be eternal. Why?

It started with a secret pre-contract agreement brokered between Figo and a man named Florentino Perez. At the time, Perez was just a man trying to win the Real Madrid presidency.

Perez was seen as a longshot to win the presidency over incumbent Lorenzo Sanz. Sanz had helped Real win the European Cup in 1998 and 2000. He figured fans were satisfied with his work. What he didn’t count on was that the club’s financial health would become a source of controversy, and that Perez had an ace up his sleeve in the form of a mega-signing.

At the same time, Barcelona were holding the elections that would eventually result in Joan Gaspart winning the presidency. Figo was looking for a new contract but was told to wait until after the elections to get a seal of approval from the new president.

Perez contacted Figo’s agent, Jose Veia, with an interesting proposal. If Perez won the presidency, Figo would join Real. If Perez lost, Figo would get 1 million euro. Veia and Paulo Futre, the former Atletico Madrid player who acted as an intermediary, saw this as essentially, free money. No way would Perez win, right?

What, perhaps, they didn’t expect was for Perez to campaign on the promise that he already had Figo signed up. Real Madrid fans were ecstatic at the thought.

Figo told his teammates not to worry, that he was not leaving. He was pictured in SPORT holding a Barcelona shirt, saying he wasn’t going. He assured fans no pre-contract existed. Sanz laughed that Perez might now claim he had signed supermodel Claudia Schiffer.

But it was all true. Perez won. Madrid triggered Figo’s release clause of 62 million euro, the most expensive player to date.

What wasn’t clear was how much Figo approved of the deal. But there was a penalty if Figo didn’t go through with it. If Perez won, they had agreed to pay a stunning 30 million euro penalty if the transfer wasn’t completed.

Apparently, Figo went to newly elected Gaspart’s office to plead for Barcelona to pay the penalty to keep him. But Gaspart didn’t want to do it. Pay that much money to Real Madrid just to keep a player, not get a new one? It was unthinkable.

It went through, despite its seeming impossibility, for a world record fee. Figo stayed for 5 years at Madrid, winning La Liga twice and the Champions League once. Cules branded him a traitor and a liar. He was never forgiven.

A top star, a greedy agent, false assurances, a release clause triggered at a world-record price... does it sound familiar?

Barcelona’s Possible Neymar Replacements: Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Paulo Dybala

Very different players... which brings up the question: what exactly is the plan?

If Neymar leaves for Paris Saint-Germain as it is widely expected, Barcelona will have to fill a huge void. But they will have mountains of cash to do so.

Barça do not have to find a like-for-like replacement for him, though. The team can spend the bulk of that money on a player who strengthens the team in a different way, not necessarily a left winger.

There are four players who fit the criteria of a young star forward who have been linked with Barcelona.

They are: Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid), Kylian Mbappe (AS Monaco), Ousmane Dembele (Borussia Dortmund), and Paulo Dybala (Juventus).

The first thing you’ll notice is these players vary widely in their qualities. Griezmann is 26 and left-footed, while Mbappe is 18 and right-footed. Dembele is 20 and ambidextrous, while Dybala is 23 and left footed.

The team will be set up differently depending on which one they get, and it would affect the rest of the signings as well.

It’s also not clear to what extent those players are available. Griezmann rejected a move to Manchester United due to Atletico’s transfer ban. He may not be open to moving at all this year, though he would be available next year. Mbappe’s price has been quoted as an astronomic 180 million euros. Barça have chased Dembele but been rejected so far. Meanwhile, Dybala is the one that seems the easiest to get, and reports are swirling talks are advanced.

In the end, the star player Barcelona get should not be expected to replace Neymar singlehandedly. With that much money, Barça have the opportunity to strengthen several areas with three or four players.

Barcelona, PSG agree deal for Neymar - Source

We can confirm that Neymar will join the Paris club this week

Barcelona have agreed to sell Neymar Jr. to Paris Saint-Germain, sources with knowledge of the situation told Barça Blaugranes. The French club will pay the full €222 million release clause to complete the deal, and the official announcements from both clubs are expected for this week.

Neymar is currently in China for promotional events involving Barcelona and Nike, and on the way back from China he will land in Qatar for medicals and contract signing with PSG. The Brazilian will earn a bigger salary with the Paris club and will receive an immense signing bonus.

The first report claiming Neymar had accepted an offer to join PSG came out two weeks ago, and for the past fortnight we’ve had many developments to this story, but never an official word from Neymar himself confirming or denying the rumors. We learned that he told his teammates about his decision to leave last weekend, and last Saturday’s El Clásico in Miami was indeed Neymar’s final match as a Blaugrana.

Philippe Coutinho “one step away” from Barcelona transfer - Report

If Neymar is indeed going to Paris, Barça already have his replacement

It looks as though Neymar is leaving Barcelona, and it also looks as though Barcelona have his replacement.

According to a report from Diario SPORT, the Blaugrana are closing in on a deal for Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho. The report claims Coutinho is “one step away” from the transfer, and the last hurdle to jump is the fee. Liverpool want over €100 million, but Barça are willing to offer just under €90 million. If PSG pay Neymar’s clause, however, Barça will agree to give Liverpool what they want and get the deal done.

We of course have to take this with many grains of salt given the report comes from SPORT. But Barça’s interest in Coutinho is nothing new, there have been multiple stories about a transfer happening this summer, and with Neymar so close to leaving, the club will have to act quickly to sign his replacement.

Coutinho would naturally slot into Neymar’s position if he’s indeed signed, but he has played in central midfield for Liverpool towards the end of last season and is one of the most talented players in the Premier League. There is no ideal replacement to Neymar in the market, but Coutinho is not a horrible alternative.

We’ll follow up this story and bring you the developments.

La Liga president threatens action against PSG over Neymar transfer

Legal action could make Neymar’s rumored move to Paris a bit less attractive for PSG.

La Liga president Javier Tebas has made it clear that he will take legal action against PSG should they sign Barcelona’s Neymar. Tebas believes that if PSG are able sign Neymar, €222 million release clause and all, that they would be in violation of UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules.

The news that Tebas would pursue legal action could fend off PSG pursuits or not change things at all, they’ve been involved in FFP issues before.

Whether or not Tebas’ actions would impact the transfer remains to be seen, since threats of FFP haven’t fended off many large-scale transfers previously. What it does show is that La Liga’s top man is serious about keeping one of the world’s top talents in his league. The Spanish league is proud of having the best players on Earth playing for them, and having a huge star leaving La Liga for so much money does not make Tebas happy.

"We will [make a complaint about PSG] because they infringe UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules and also the European Union's competition rules."

"We will make a complaint to UEFA and if they don't do anything we will take it to the competition tribunals in Switzerland and Brussels. And, from there, we don't rule out going through the courts in France and Spain."

Javier Tebas

Reports suggest that Neymar is 90 percent of the way out the door, and he has apparently told his teamates he’s leaving. The Neymar deal could be all but signed and announced, but Tebas being open about pursuing legal action allows for a scenario in which PSG doesn’t want to take the risk. A small hope to cling onto for Barça fans, but a shot of hope nevertheless.

Andre Gomes sale being considered?

Marca suggests that the Portuguese could be pushed out the door...

Andre Gomes has been walking a very fine line since he first arrived for big money from Valencia.

The Portuguese midfielder had a horrid time last season with his poor performances turning the fans against him. Former coach Luis Enrique was a staunch supporter of the midfielder and made it a point to shield Gomes from criticism. With Ernesto Valverde at the helm, however, things could be looking down for Gomes. With the rise of Carles Aleña and Sergi Samper alongside a motivated Sergi Roberto, Barcelona’s midfield looks packed.

According to reports from Marca, Barcelona had hoped to clear out some space in their crowded midfield by selling former Atletico Madrid star, Arda Turan. Despite being a high profile name, the Turk has failed to garner interest from big teams which has the club contemplating whether funds could be raised from the sale of Andre Gomes.

Gomes has not returned from his holidays yet which means he has lost his chance to impress the new coach in the preseason.

Whether the move will materialise or not is not sure, but if the club is looking to raise funds then the fans should prepare themselves for some big names this summer.

Three things we learned from Barcelona’s 3-2 win over Real Madrid in the Miami Clásico

Barça were dominant in the opening minutes to end up capturing a preseason El Clásico victory.

1 - Barça took preseason seriously, and it showed in their opening attacks

From the start of the game, Barcelona looked fast and poised offensively. They came at Real Madrid attacking with and without possession in the opening 30 minutes. Despite giving up a goal to Madrid early on, Barça continued to attack and produce great opportunities to score. In the opening half, the Blaugrana produced nine total shots with three of them on target.

The second half wasn’t much different. Barça scored another goal from a set piece early in the half then continued to create chances, but they couldn’t cap off some of the wonderful opportunities they had. They really did leave good chances on the table, partially due to some great saves from Keylor Navas and some lackluster finishing once they got into goal-scoring situations. Barça still ended up with 16 shots, six of them on target.

The victory was the culmination of a fantastic preseason performance from Barcelona. Winning all three games in their United States tour, Barça finished things off by winning the 2017 International Champions Cup against their arch rivals.

2 - Barça’s offense ran through Neymar

For the first 60 minutes, while most of the starters were present, the offensive production ran mostly through Neymar. He was the catalyst behind most of the team’s runs and created many of their opportunities, and was even the main set piece taker for Barça. Lionel Messi was on the scoresheet early, but the Argentine couldn’t quite maintain a consistently great level throughout his 60 minutes on the pitch (which is understandable in preseason), and Luis Suárez failed to convert some great opportunities.

Neymar’s prominent offensive role was perhaps particularly noticeable due to the nature of his current transfer situation. His performance could end up being a somewhat painful reminder of what he means to Barcelona should the transfer to PSG take place.

3 - Humidity and preseason’s lack of interest played a significant role

Both teams looked somewhat disinterested for portions of the game. There were moments of brilliance from both sides, like Real’s amazing counter-attack that led to their second goal. Barça could have scored more than the three goals in the game, but there were still moments where the preseason atmosphere and the humidity seemed to drastically impact Barça, particularly on the defensive end.

Although the first goal from Mateo Kovacic wasn’t due to terrible defending, the second goal is where the defense let up and looked like they were a bit winded. Madrid countered with precision after a Barça corner, and Marco Asensio easily beat Jordi Alba in the box before finishing with precision past Jasper Cillessen.

The players were fueled by the intensity of the match through the first 30 minutes. The game was electric, up and down the pitch with an intensity and fire. That died quickly once the heat seemed to hit the players and everyone remembered it was preseason.

Still, the win is nice, preseason is over and we can look forward to two really competitive Clásico matches in the Super Cup.

Watch Gerard Piqué’s El Clásico winner from a different angle

Barcelona vs. Real Madrid, 2017 International Champions Cup: Final Score 3-2, Barça win Miami Clásico

A big win against Madrid to finish the United States tour!

Barcelona finished their United States tour with their third consecutive victory thanks to a 3-2 win over Real Madrid in El Clásico at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. A very entertaining match saw Gerard Piqué score the winner in what was probably Neymar’s last game as a Blaugrana. Once again we saw some positives from Ernesto Valverde’s team, and Barça’s preparations in the US ended in a very good way.

FIRST HALF

The first 15 minutes were electric, with Barça scoring two goals in just seven minutes with Lionel Messi and Ivan Rakitic, before Mateo Kovacic made it 2-1 with a really nice shot. Both teams were very good in transition and created great chances on the counter-attack.

As time went on and the players began to get tired, the level of intensity dropped and mistakes happened. Barça failed to track back after a corner and Marco Asensio found himself one on one with Jasper Cillessen, and the young Spaniard scored the equalizer.

At halftime, a very entertaining match in Miami and a 2-2 score.

SECOND HALF

Gerard Piqué scored for Barça after just five minutes to put the Blaugrana ahead, and the goal brought plenty of chances for Madrid that Jasper Cillessen stopped to keep the Catalans in front. The two coaches then made plenty of changes that killed the intensity of the match, and Madrid were the better team in the final minutes as they chased an equalizer.

They couldn’t find, though, and the game ended with a Barça win in El Clásico that gives them the 2017 International Champions Cup title. YAY!!!

Real Madrid: Navas; Carvajal (Hakimi), Ramos (Vallejo), Varane (Nacho), Marcelo (Theo); Casemiro (Llorente), Modric (Isco), Kovacic (Ceballos); Bale (Óscar), Benzema (Mayoral), Asensio (Vázquez)

Goals: Kovacic (14’), Asensio (36’)

Barcelona: Cillessen; Vidal (Semedo), Piqué (Mascherano), Umtiti (Vermaelen), Alba (Digne); Busquets (Samper), Rakitic (Aleñà), Iniesta (Roberto); Messi (Denis), Suárez (Alcácer), Neymar (Arda)

Goals: Messi (3’), Rakitic (7’), Piqué (50’)

from Barca Blaugranes - All Posts http://ift.tt/2eXVLWL

Messi, Rakitic give El Clásico friendly patrons their money’s worth

Go on, Leo!

Barcelona have begun this glorified friendly/epic cash grab/El Clásico in style. After a first minute injury scare to Neymar, the Blaugrana shook that off to take an early lead in just the fourth minute through Lionel Messi.

It wasn’t the cleanest of goals as Messi’s finish took a massive deflection to take it past Keylor Navas for the opening goal. Barca won’t complain as it put them into control of the match.

Just two minutes later, they took advantage of that control by doubling their lead. Some nice passing around the box led to Luis Suarez setting up Ivan Rakitic for a great strike at the top of the box.

It’s a great start for Barcelona as the look to capture the International Champions Cup or whatever this weird preseason tournament is called.

Barcelona vs. Real Madrid live stream: Game time, TV listings, and how to watch Miami Clásico online

The biggest match in football takes place tonight!

The International Champions Cup comes to an end on Saturday for Barcelona and Real Madrid, who face each other in the most anticipated match of this preseason. El Clásico is always a big deal no matter when it happens, and even though this is not a competitive match, it’s the biggest rivalry in football, and everyone will be watching.

This particular Clásico, which takes in Miami, FL, is extra interesting for a simple reason: this could very well be the last match in Neymar’s career with Barcelona. The Brazilian superstar has been involved with many rumors linking him with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, and if the latest reports are accurate, Neymar will join PSG next week, thus playing for the last time in a Blaugrana shirt against Barça’s biggest rival.

Real Madrid have a few key absences, including Toni Kroos and Cristiano Ronaldo, and Zinedine Zidane has used preseason to test a lot of his young players. We might not see a truly competitive Clásico for the entire 90 minutes, but the first half will certainly be intense and both teams will be fighting hard for the victory.

New Barça coach Ernesto Valverde gave fans some encouraging signs against Juventus and Manchester United, but Real Madrid provide the first true test for Valverde’s team as the fitness levels increase and the Spanish Super Cup between the two clubs is just two weeks away.

We’ll probably see Neymar for the last time in Barça colors, we’ll probably see a very good match, and we’ll probably see a few goals and maybe a few fights. After all, this is El Clásico, and you should not miss it.

Neymar has informed Barcelona teammates he will join PSG - Report

Yeah, it looks like this is really happening

It looks as though Neymar will become a Paris Saint-Germain player next week, and his teammates know it. According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, the Brazilian superstar has informed his closest friends in the Barcelona squad that he has decided to leave the club this summer and will join PSG as soon as the French club agrees to pay his €222 million release clause.

Knowing what we know about Barça, Neymar’s closest teammates are Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Gerard Piqué, Andrés Iniesta. Those four are without a doubt the biggest leaders of the dressing room, and if they know about Neymar’s decision, then they’ll inform the rest of the team and everyone is aware of it by now.

Always according to the report, Neymar is yet to inform the Barça board about his decision, but he will meet with president Josep Maria Bartomeu after the United States tour to tell him he is moving to Paris once the release clause is activated.

It really seems like this Saturday’s El Clásico is Neymar’s last game for Barcelona. His teammates know it, and the board will know it soon.

Barcelona president: PSG will have to pay Neymar’s release clause “until the last cent”

The Barça president has made it clear how much he wants to let Neymar go

The Neymar Saga won’t be over until an official announcement comes, but we can look at certain statements from important people and draw some conclusions. Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu spoke recently about Neymar, and we can draw a conclusion: it seems like the Brazilian could leave.

Bartomeu spoke to media in the United States before Saturday’s El Clásico against Real Madrid in Miami, and he was asked about the Neymar situation. According to the president, the club wants the player to stay, but they have no control over the transfer if Paris Saint-Germain pay the release clause.

If they do decide to pay the clause, though, PSG must be sure about one thing: they have to pay all of it.

“We want Neymar to stay, but there are clauses. If he wants to leave, [PSG] will have to pay his clause, until the last cent. We haven’t talked, but we’ll sit down with him when we go home.”

PSG must pay “until the last cent”. Bartomeu makes it clear that the reports claiming that PSG could negotiate a lower fee are just rumors. Barça won’t sell for less than the €222 million, and that’s a firm stance from Bartomeu. Which is good, because we don’t get that often.

It does seem like El Clásico will be Neymar’s last game, however.

Rumor Round-up: Di María targeted as Neymar replacement, Monaco name Mbappé price, Rafinha to stay at Barça

The latest Barcelona rumors are here!

Di María targeted as Neymar replacement

According to RMC, Barcelona have added Paris Saint-Germain winger Ángel Di María to the list of potential candidates to replace Neymar in case the Brazilian joins the Ligue 1 side this summer. Di María has been linked with Barça for a long time, and the former Real Madrid star plays on the left wing for the national team, so this kind of makes sense.

Monaco name Mbappé price

According to L’Équipe, AS Monaco have named their asking price for Kylian Mbappé, the hottest prospect in football. The publication says Mbappé is available for 180 million euros, with Real Madrid, Manchester City and Barcelona having been linked with the young striker.

Rafinha to stay at Barça

According to a report from Brazilian outlet UOL Esporte, Rafinha Alcântara is working on the possibility of staying at the club after his move to Arsenal broke down due to the €30 million fee asked by Barça. Mundo Deportivo says Liverpool, Inter Milan and AC Milan could be interested, but after learning from manager Ernesto Valverde that he will be part of the plans due to his tactical versatility, Rafinha is still interested in playing for the Blaugrana.

A Fan’s Perspective: The fly in the room

An opinion on Neymar’s situation and its impact on Barça’s transfer window

Everyone’s begging for some answers in this transfer window and there’s very little satisfaction in the rumours that are circulated around like clockwork during the silly season.

Will Barça finally sign a right-back?

Is Verratti going to wear the Blaugrana?

Will Neymar stay? Will Neymar leave?

Somewhere in all the dilemma, Barça has lost sight of its true objectives for the summer. The club was in need of some major reinforcements in key areas and for a while, it seemed like Barcelona was on course to fix its issues for good. However, as the summer passes by, Barcelona have started asking the wrong questions. Why is Neymar’s future even an agenda in July? Didn’t we just sign him up on a new deal? He literally has 4 more years on his contract and yet, here we are...

From addressing a big hole in the squad like the right-back situation, Barcelona had quickly shifted their attention to positions that called for consolidation—an ageing Andres Iniesta needed to be replaced and calls for Verratti seemed like the right decision to make at the time. Yet, here we stand, discussing Neymar once more, and incessantly refreshing our social media feeds and constantly searching for the same keywords like mad men in the hope of finding some fresh, concrete information that will finally squash our doubts.

I have no issues with Neymar. It wouldn’t bother me if the Brazilian departs—another will fill his shoes and the wheel will still keep turning. Do we really need this bugbear though? Do the fans deserve this ceaseless nagging sensation of uncertainty? I don’t think so; we deserve an answer, and we deserve it now.

Neymar’s contract situation is like the fly that refuses to leave the room and keeps buzzing around your ears every few minutes. Time and again, Barca has had to deal with speculation regarding the Brazilian’s exit—most times, it was midseason and the situation was resolved within a few days. This PSG saga, however, has gone on for way too long and has become a distraction from our true goals for the summer. What happened to our midfield reinforcements? What happened to the departures of unwanted fringe players?

From a harmless rumour, the circumstances have become murky and there is only one solution to the endless suffering—demand answers. If we keep playing this game of begging and pleasing, we will end up with very little power in our hands. We need to fix a deadline, start prioritising our needs and identify targets before it’s too late to negotiate with the selling clubs.

I loved Neymar and believed in his ability to lead the team.

My opinion has changed.

If he continues to remain ignorant of the club’s need for assurances, maybe he isn’t the right man after all...

Barcelona Chopping Block: Which players are in danger of leaving this summer?

Naturally, every summer supporters of their favorite clubs will turn their attention to who will be purchased in order to strengthen the previous years squad. No where is this more prevalent than at Barcelona, especially considering it was a year that saw Real Madrid claim the league title for the first time since 2012, all the while repeating as Champions of Europe. To date, the club have attempted to do just that, signing Nelson Semedo, Gerard Deulofeu and Marlon for a combined €47.5 million.

Eventually, Barca will have to take care of some financial stumbling blocks as well. With the highest wage bill in Europe, space will need to be freed in order to bring the number down from La Liga's threshold, in addition to replenishing a once flush transfer budget.

None of last summer's signings particularly lived up to their billing, but unless a desperate club submits an outrageous offer, all four (Andre Gomes, Lucas Digne, Paco Alcacer and Dennis Suarez) are expected to be given a second chance to adjust to their surroundings at Camp Nou.

With that, lets take a look at who presently is the most probable (%) to leave the club.

Neymar (75%) - With more plot twists than a M. Night Shyamalan movie, the Neymar saga continues to be the transfer roller coaster of the summer. With each passing hour, the truth becomes harder to decipher and an annoyance to pursue. Just yesterday, a report via Esporte Interativo claimed that Ney had decided to join PSG and would announce his decision after a sponsorship event in China ends. Early this morning, that very event was cancelled when one of China's largest travel agencies, Ctrip, revealed Neymar wouldn't be attending due to ongoing "transfer issues."

Although Pique had us all convinced a week ago that the Brazilian was in fact staying via a misleading tweet, the scales are now heavily leaning towards a likely divorce. Ultimately, the decision will have huge ramifications either way, but until anything becomes official, the club's business will remain in limbo.

Arda Turan (60%) - Behind possibly only Josep Bartomeu, no person currently sits in worse standing amongst the Barcelona faithful than the Turk. Though there were some improvements and the odd impressive performance as the occasional deputy for Neymar a season ago, the 30 year old has been unable to prove himself in a midfield that could desperately use the cover. While there was a reported interest from Arsenal early in the summer, the latest chatter has Turan returning to his former club Galatasaray on loan. As one of the few expendable players on the squad who could bring back a sizable return, Barca would be prudent to hold off for the most lucrative offer.

Rafinha (50%) - Under Luis Enrique — a manager in which he shared a uniquely special bond with — the Brazilian was able to flash some of the potential that at one time made him a treasured commodity in La Maisa. Unfortunately, just as it appeared a corner was about to be turned, injuries would constantly disrupt any chances he may have had at cracking Barcelona's first team. Although still valuable to the squad, Rafinha has made it known that he craves regular minutes ahead of next summers World Cup. Much like his brother Thiago who moved from Barca to Bayern Munich in 2013, a fresh start could benefit the 24-year old going forward. A move to the Premier League looks to be the most likely, with Arsenal currently rumored as the heavy favorites.

Munir (60%) - After Barca's UEFA Youth League win in 2014 followed by a goal in his first team debut against Elche, the sky looked to be the limit for Munir El Haddadi. Three years on, a once illuminating future has arrived to a slow and steady dim. On loan at Valencia this past season, the option to sign him this summer for €12m was turned down due to a litany of erratic performances.

Barca were hopeful he would agree to terms with Zenit Saint Petersburg with the Russians set to offer close to the €30 million price tag Barcelona are requesting for his services. However, the deal fell apart in the final stages as Munir expressed his reluctance to move to Russia. The club would like to a get a deal done as quick as possible, but they are adamant with their price evaluation. Meanwhile, Munir is perfectly content with waiting for the right situation. After his experience at a Valencia project in turmoil, he wants to join a stable club and a manager who will show faith in him.

Sergi Roberto (5%) - While the idea of Sergi Roberto changing clubs is not one being presently pursued by the player or Barcelona, Chelsea are reportedly doing their utmost to change that. According to respected journalist Gerard Romero, the Premier League champions are prepared to pay his €40 million release clause and have already informed Sergi of their intention. With the acquisition of Nelson Semedo from Benfica, Roberto's starting position at RB is anything but secure. The player prefers a move back to the midfield but just how much game time is he likely to see there either? For this reason alone, Chelsea could be tempting. While it's certainly something to think about, all signs point to Roberto fanning off interest and staying put.

Douglas, Thomas Vermaelen (100%) - Not much to say here. They gone.

Chelsea willing to pay release clause to sign Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto - Report

Antonio Conte sees the versatile Barça midfielder as the answer to his problems at wing-back

According to respected Catalan journalist Gerard Romero, Premier League champions Chelsea are prepared to pay the €40 million release clause to sign Barcelona star Sergi Roberto, and have already informed the player of their intentions.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is looking at options at the wing-back position, especially on the right side given Victor Moses is the only available player at that spot. Roberto played right-back throughout last season, although he wasn’t able to be a solid replacement to Dani Alves after the Brazilian’s departure.

Barça manager Ernesto Valverde sees Roberto as a key part of his plans for this season and does not plan to sell Sergi, and the player is also keen on staying at Barça to return to his favorite position in midfield.

It’s important to note that paying a release clause does not automatically mean the club will sign the player. If Chelsea do activate the clause, Sergi Roberto will have to agree a deal for it to be completed, and all signs indicate he does not want to move to England at the moment.

Nice try, Chelsea.

Neymar’s fight with Barcelona teammate should not be a big deal. It’s just horrible timing

Things like this happen all the time. But they shouldn’t happen NOW

If you don’t know it already, Barcelona superstar Neymar fought his new teammate Nélson Semedo and walked off the pitch during a training session in Miami on Thursday afternoon. There’s even video footage to prove it:

So, how big of a deal is this? I’m not and have never a professional football player, but every professional player I’ve talked to over the years has told me fights in training happen all the time. With the increased intensity of these sessions, players want to prove themselves and sometimes exaggerate on a certain challenge, and some players simply overreact to a simple challenge and it blows out of proportion.

This is absolutely normal, and we can be sure there were fights in training during the Pep Guardiola Era, the Luis Enrique Era, any Barça Era you think about. It’s what happens. This fight, however, is looked at differently for a simple reason: it’s just horrible timing.

Unless you’ve been under a rock for the last two weeks, you know about the huge speculation of Neymar leaving Barcelona and joining Paris Saint-Germain this summer. We don’t know what will happen, but this just adds fuel to the fire. Had this exact same fight between Semedo and Neymar happened during the first week of training in Barcelona, where all training sessions are closed and nobody can film it, it wouldn’t be a big deal.

But the current climate hurts this fight. It was not supposed to happen now, and the fact we don’t know about Neymar’s decision makes it even worse. We should just forget about this and move on, but the timing of this makes it impossible.

Rumor round-up: Liverpool name Coutinho price and replacement, Barça to offer Rakitic in deal, Munir offer rejected

A fresh batch of Barça rumors hot from the oven!

Liverpool name Coutinho price

According to Diario SPORT, Liverpool have named the price for Barcelona target Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian has no release clause on his contract, and Liverpool will only sell for 150 million euros, so it’ll be a very difficult deal to pull off for Barça if they’re indeed interested in the Brazilian star.

Liverpool chose Coutinho replacement

If Barça do pull off a shocking Coutinho transfer, TyC Sports claim Jürgen Klopp has already found a possible replacement: West Ham United star Manuel Lanzini, who became the Hammers’ biggest star after the departure of Dimitri Payet. Lanzini plays in the same position as Coutinho and would slot perfectly into Klopp’s system should Coutinho leave for Catalonia.

Barça to offer Rakitic in Coutinho deal

Another great bit of hilarious news from Don Balon, who say Barça are prepared to include Ivan Rakitic in any deal for Coutinho to try and lower Liverpool’s asking price. Rakitic is always linked with a move away from Camp Nou, but the Croatian signed a new contract recently and is unlikely to leave.

Barça reject offer for Munir

According to SPORT, AS Roma made a €25 million offer for Barça attacker Munir El-Haddadi, which was instantly rejected by the club. Roma’s new sporting director Monchi is a big fan of Munir and tried to bring him on loan to Sevilla last season, and he’d be looking to sign him permanently this time. Ernesto Valverde is a fan of Munir, however, and plans to use the young forward as one of the backups to the ‘MSN’ trio this season.

Paulo Dybala: Barcelona Offer “Would Depend on Juventus and Me”

The Argentine is rumored as a Neymar replacement

Paulo Dybala was asked in an interview about being Neymar’s replacement at Barcelona if the Brazilian moves to Paris Saint-Germain. "I'm happy here,” the Argentine said, “but if an offer comes, it will depend first on Juventus and then on me"

Dybala is coming off a successful year at Juve in which the team won the Serie A championship and finished second in the Champions League. Dybala scored two pivotal goals to eliminate Barcelona, as well. The forward spoke about improving on last season at Turin, but he seemed to have left the door open for a possible exit.

Still, it seems to be just rumors at this point. “No one has told me anything about a possible transfer,” Dybala said.

Barcelona To Battle Real Madrid, Manchester City for Kylian Mbappe - French Source

Le Parisien says Barcelona are throwing their hat in the ring

Teenage phenom Kylian Mbappe is being courted by all the top clubs in Europe, and that includes FC Barcelona. Reports had filtered through that Real Madrid had completed his signing, but his club, AS Monaco, denied that. That’s opened the floodgates for rumors that seemingly every big club could be in for him.

Manchester City are one of those superclubs thought to have joined the race for the 18-year-old, who could cost as much as 180 million euro. And according to Le Parisien, FC Barcelona are set to join that race for his signature as well if they lose Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking of PSG, Le Parisien says they’re also in for Mbappe. Surely not if they pay 222 million for Neymar? Maybe he’s the backup plan for both Barça and PSG if they don’t have Neymar next season?

Meanwhile, Monaco thinks they have a chance of renewing the young star.

Bartomeu hits back at Xavi for La Masia criticism

The president had some strong words to say to the former legend...

In a recent interview with The Tactical Room, former Barcelona captain Xavi Hernandez criticised the approach of the club towards their youth teams in recent times:

In general Barcelona have been sleeping. They have to boost the cantera and their model of play. Young players have to learn this form of play so that when they arrive in the first team they already have the concepts properly learned. The cantera coaches have to make players, they have to teach them. You have to form them from the youngest ages. If you win, great, but that's not the objective.

In hindsight, Xavi’s criticism is warranted given the recent departures of Thiago Alcantara, Sandro Ramirez and Alex Grimaldo among others. Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu, however, has responded to the criticism with a short but comprehensive explanation:

No, no. The problem is Xavi, and Iniesta, and Leo Messi, and those players. It is very difficult to be a player, and when you have in front of you Leo Messi, or you have Neymar, or Xavi, Iniesta, [Sergio] Busquets or [Gerard] Piqué. It is very difficult to be there

Xavi was in the first team for 15 years. Those 15 years mean that 15 boys that played in his position had to leave the club. Iniesta, now, I think it is 16 or 17 years. It is very difficult. Or Leo Messi? Who is going to be the new Messi? Well, probably, other players will be Messi, but they have to leave our club because it is impossible. Xavi said “go slowly,” but the problem is Xavi! He created the problem. And Iniesta and Piqué. They created the problem.

The response does appear snide on first glance but once thought over, it does appear rather fair—Barcelona has only so many openings in their line-up and with the need for instant success, patience is rather hard to come by. It is not possible to keep every good player that is produced in the academy since they’re fighting for a spot with someone who is already world-class.

The state of the academy is a polarising discussion with many believing that La Masia is dead.

While it might not apply in all cases, Bartomeu does make a fair point—it’s hard to catch him on this one.

WATCH: Carles Aleñà vs. Manchester United (All touches)

An impressive display from Barça’s promising midfielder

One of the many positive things from Barcelona’s two preseason games under Ernesto Valverde is the return of the positional play, which was lost in the final moments of the Luis Enrique Era. Positional play is the mark of Barça Ball and it’s the way in which the team has been able to dominate matches forever with good use of possession, passes and movement of players to find and create spaces inside tight defenses. It worked against Juventus, and it worked again on Wednesday’s match against Manchester United.

A few players have benefited from the return of positional play, and one of them is Carles Aleñà. The Barça B star made a few appearances last season but never managed to impress, mainly because he played in a chaotic midfield that had very little impact on matches and was tasked with just running around to recover the ball and give it back to the ‘MSN’ trio. Under Valverde, midfielders actually get the chance to pass the ball between each other, and Aleñà has played quite well so far.

His performance against United lasted just 45 minutes, but we saw some very good things in the video above. Mainly his composure with the ball, his work ethic to press United players high up the pitch and the competitive attitude to try and dispossess Paul Pogba, which isn’t an easy thing. Aleñà also showed some very good skills and was important in transition.

Aleñà will most likely be a Barça B player this season and will only play for the first team in smaller Copa del Rey and La Liga matches, but with the return of positional play, he’ll get a lot more chances to show his true abilities. Barça Ball isn’t dead after all.

PSG taking new approach to sign Neymar from Barcelona - Report

According to L’Équipe, the club from Paris want to negotiate a price, and that opens a door for... Verratti?

The Neymar rumors are unstoppable, and there’s a new report from France adding fuel to the fire. According to L’Équipe, Paris Saint-Germain are planning to approach Barcelona to try and negotiate a deal between the two clubs for the transfer of the Brazilian superstar.

Because they’re worried about Financial Fair Play, paying Neymar’s €222 million may not be possible for PSG despite their giant financial power, and that’s why they could try to negotiate with Barça to potentially lower the fee.

Barça have made it clear multiple times they do not plan to sell Neymar for any price, and the only way the Brazilian will leave is if PSG pay the release clause. It makes no sense to lower the fee, unless Barça ask for a player in return.

How about... um... Marco Verratti? It’s no secret that the Italian midfielder is a major target for Barça, and if PSG really want Neymar and Barça really want Verratti, then a swap could make sense. The Parisians should obviously throw some more money to sweeten the deal, maybe €150 million or something like that. It’s a lot, but Barça should negotiate hard to test PSG’s resolve.

The possibility of this being true is quite remote, especially with the report coming from L’Équipe. But if losing Neymar means getting Verratti and a lot of money, this might not be the worst summer ever...

What do you think, Barça fans?

Barcelona vs. Manchester United, 2017 International Champions Cup: Final Score 1-0, Barça win preseason game

Neymar wins it again, and Barça play well again

Barcelona remain unbeaten in two International Champions Cup matches after a narrow 1-0 win over Manchester United on Wednesday night. Neymar scored the winner in a very good first half by the Catalan giants, and once again we saw some very good things from Ernesto Valverde’s team.

FIRST HALF

The initial period was very entertaining, with both teams hurting each other with fast counter-attacks and creating very good chances. Barça slowly gained control in midfield and began dominating possession and find spaces to take shots and test a fantastic David De Gea, who saved basically everything. Until Neymar took advantage of a mistake by Antonio Valencia and put Barça ahead.

United threatened a bit in the final minutes, but it was an impressive Barça who went into halftime with the one-goal lead.

SECOND HALF

Both teams changed all their players to start the second half, so the quality of play dropped and Barça couldn’t maintain the level of performance from the first half. Jasper Cillessen was called into work a few times and made some good saves, and the Blaugrana couldn’t really bring any danger to the United defense other than a chance that Paco Alcácer missed in front of goal.

In the end, Barça did quite well against a United team that started their preseason earlier and were in much better physical condition, and the first half was very encouraging. Ernesto Valverde seems to be good at coaching.

Barcelona: Cillessen; Semedo (Vidal), Mascherano (Piqué), Umtiti (Vermaelen), Alba (Digne); Rakitic (Denis), Busquets (Roberto (Samper)), Aleñà (Iniesta); Messi (Munir), Suárez (Alcácer), Neymar (Arda)

Goal: Neymar (31’)

Man United: De Gea (Romero); Valencia (Tuanzebe), Smalling (Bailly), Lindelof (Jones), Blind (Darmian); Carrick (Fellaini), Pogba; Rashford, Mkhitaryan (Pereira), Lingard (Martial); Lukaku

Goals: None

Barcelona vs. Manchester United live stream: Start time, TV listings and how to watch International Champions Cup online

Barça continue preseason against the Europa League champions. Don’t miss it!

After a very encouraging performance in their preseason debut against Juventus, Barcelona play their second International Champions Cup match in the United States, this time against Manchester United at FedEx Field, home of the NFL’s Washington Redskins.

Ernesto Valverde will be looking to stay unbeaten in charge of Barça, but even if the result isn’t positive, what matters in preseason is preparing the players and seeing how well they perform under his orders. The initial signs we saw against Juventus were quite good, and Valverde will be hoping to see some improvement in the second game.

United present quite a strong challenge. The current Europa League winners have made some very good signings, including striker Romelu Lukaku, and José Mourinho is always looking to beat Barcelona, so expect a competitive match on Wednesday evening.

It is also another opportunity to see Neymar, who may or may not be on his way out of Barcelona. The International Champions Cup could be his final tournament as a Barça player, so fans will savor the chance to watch the Brazilian before he moves to PSG. If he goes.

This should be quite a fun match. Do not miss it!

Barcelona “Optimistic” About Signing Paulinho and Philippe Coutinho - Brazilian Source

Their teams are holding firm, though.

Is Barcelona trying to appease Neymar by signing two Brazilians, or is Barcelona going to use money from his sale to buy them? That’s the question right now as Barcelona are reported to be “optimistic” about signing Paulinho from Guangzhou Evergrande and Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool, or so says GLOBO.

The club's Brazilian representative, Andre Cury was in London to meet Kia Joorabchian and Giuliano Bertolucci. The discussions are understood to be about Coutinho and Paulinho. The pair are thought to be all in for joining Barça. Agreeing personal terms is "no problem," they say, but what won't be so easy is convincing their clubs.

For Paulinho, who could join in midseason, Barcelona offer 20 million euro plus an additional 5 million in bonuses. The Chinese club rejected this, but Barça will be making a new offer. Meanwhile, Barcelona offered Liverpool a first proposal of 80 million, with 70 fixed and 10 as a bonus. However, the English club want 100 million.

Barça seek potential Neymar Replacement.

The board are preparing for the worst.

With Neymar’s transfer to PSG looking more and more likely as the days pass, Barcelona have started to make plans for life without Neymar.

Liverpool’s Phillipe Coutinho remains the most likely candidate with Sky Sports reporting the Catalan club are confident of the transfer. The Brazilian recently signed a new contract with the Merseyside club so any transfer will cost Barcelona a hefty fee. Coupled with the fact that clubs now know Barcelona will have money if Neymar is sold so there will be and added price rise for that.

Another name recently floated has been Paulo Dybala. His transfer will also be a very complicated one as would going after Coutinho but many see Dybala as the next great player, some even think better than Neymar. The Argetninian connection with Messi may be tempting for Dybala but Juventus are unlikely to want to sell.

The whole Neymar saga has made this summer an embarrassment for Barça. The failure to land any big name signing as of yet is only worsened by the very real possibility of Barcelona losing one of their biggest stars.

Rumor round-up: PSG give Neymar deadline, Arda to Galatasaray, Barca make contact with Dybala and more

Are we finally nearing the end of the Neymar saga?

PSG give Neymar deadline

Paris Saint-Germain are keen to see the end of the Neymar saga as soon as possible (aren’t we all) and have given the Brazilian a deadline, as they don’t want it to drag on any longer.

L’Equipe claim Neymar has until the end of next week to seal the deal, otherwise it risks becoming too complicated and more difficult for the Parisiens to pull off.

Arda Turan to join Galatasaray on loan

Arda Turan’s future is back on the agenda with a report from Turkish outlet Hurriyet claiming Galatasaray are keen on taking the midfielder on loan.

The Turkish side are struggling to afford Arda on a permanent basis, hence the loan, and club president Dursun Özbek has offered him €4 million to spend the season with Gala.

Barca pessimistic about Neymar

Barcelona are growing increasingly pessimistic about their chances of keeping hold of Neymar, write Sport.

The squad believed they have done everything they can to persuade the Brazilian to stay, but Gerard Pique and Javier Mascherano’s downbeat press conference yesterday revealed the team’s true feelings.

Barca make contact with Dybala

You’ve probably heard this one before, but Marca have got in on the act by reporting that Barca will move for Paulo Dybala if Neymar does indeed leave this summer.

The club have already contacted the player’s representatives as they feel the Blaugrana will need a huge morale boost if PSG manage to sign Neymar, and want a high-profile addition.

Is Coutinho the key to Neymar’s future at Barcelona?

الثلاثاء، 25 يوليو 2017

Pique tells Neymar not to leave Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain

The defender admits his team-mate’s future is uncertain

Gerard Pique has admitted his now infamous tweet with a photo of Neymar and the caption “he stays” was not official confirmation the Brazilian will remain at Camp Nou.

After days of huge speculation claiming Neymar was on the verge of a move to PSG, Pique’s tweet was met with huge relief from the majority of Barcelona fans.

However, while the rumors have eased slightly, Neymar is still believed to be deliberating on whether to stay at Barcelona or leave for PSG.

Pique was quizzed about his social media activity during a press conference on Tuesday and says he is hopeful he will stay, while claiming a move to France would be a step down for the Brazilian.

“The tweet was nothing official, it doesn't depend on me. Only Ney can say what will happen, but I hope he stays,” he told the press conference.

“I tried to explain to Neymar, as a team-mate and a friend, the situation he’s in. It’s my personal opinion from the conversations I’ve had with him.

“I would say don't go to a league which, with all due respect, is not as good.

"I told Neymar, in France you will never be the best player in the world... unless you win the Champions League. Can you do it?

"Neymar was not annoyed with my tweet, it did not cause my any problems with him."

So there we have it, pretty much confirmation from Pique that Neymar is still weighing up his future, and he’s been doing his best to influence the decision. Will it be enough?

Barcelona Agree Personal Terms With Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho - Catalan Source

According to respected journalist Gerard Romero

Barcelona have agreed personal terms with Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho, according to Gerard Romero, a respected Catalan journalist.

While no agreement has been reached with Liverpool over a transfer fee, Romero says they are willing to negotiate. “Liverpool is not PSG”, Romero tweeted, in reference to Paris Saint-Germain’s unwillingness to negotiate over Marco Verratti earlier this year.

This move might have something to do with Neymar’s potential transfer to PSG. Rumor is that bringing one of Neymar’s friends, a fellow Brazilian such as Coutinho, would help ease Ney’s concerns.

Romero says “MSN” (Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Neymar) see the addition as a welcome one.

Will the transfer materialize? Does this mean Neymar is staying? Stay tuned.

Barcelona, PSG To Deliver Dueling Press Conferences and Maybe the Neymar Saga Will Finally End

Or, you know... not.

I’ve previously discussed the Neymar saga in terms of Lord of the Rings, but I think there’s another movie that is becoming more and more appropriate: Groundhog Day. In this Bill Murray-led comedy, a man magically wakes up every morning to repeat the exact same day.

That’s how it feels with the Neymar saga. He’s definitely going. He’s definitely staying. He’s maybe going. He’s just changed his mind. OK, for sure, he is staying now. Wait, no, he’s leaving. And so on, every day. I feel like I’m aging in dog years.

Gerard Pique’s famous “se queda” picture seemed to have settled it, but we heard murmurs the very same day casting doubt on that.

Mercifully, the whole thing might be over tonight as both Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona have scheduled press conferences from the United States.

Pique will speak to the press for the first time since his post, while neither the speaker nor the content has been revealed for PSG’s presser.

PSG’s press conferences is supposed to start at 5:00 PM United States Eastern Time, or 11:00 PM Spanish time. Thirty minutes later, Pique will speak. With the last game of the US tour on Wednesday, this really should settle things. Neither team can fully plan for the season with such a big question still hanging.Wednesday,

The Groundhog Day spell ends today... right?

Barcelona open Coutinho talks but are told he will cost €100m - report

The Reds will sell, but only at a huge price

Barcelona’s pursuit of Philippe Coutinho looks to have been reignited with reports in Spain claiming club officials have travelled to the UK for talks over a possible move.

According to Sport, the Reds are well aware of Barcelona’s interest and although they insist he is not for sale, they will reportedly let him go for €100m.

Apparently Barca now see Coutinho as a more realistic transfer target than Marco Verratti, and have begun formal negotiations with talk of an initial €75m offer.

Barca are prepared to go up to €80m for Coutinho, but appear unlikely to go as far as Liverpool’s asking price, all of which suggests another tedious, and long-drawn out transfer saga - particularly as Jurgen Klopp has continually insisted he will stay at Anfield.

There’s also the small matter of Neymar, particularly as so much talk of his proposed move to Paris Saint-Germain has centred around him playing with Dani Alves and linking up with fellow Brazilians Marquinhos, Thiago Silva and Lucas Moura.

The arrival of Coutinho, a good friend of Neymar, would certainly help keep him happy (if he remains at Camp Nou) and the report acknowleges it is a “strategic signing” - not only would it keep Neymar sweet, but Coutinho could even take his place should he leave.
