Report: Barcelona planning to trade Alen Halilovic for Sevilla striker Kevin Gameiro

As Barcelona continues to look for a viable backup to its trio of attacking superstars, they could be lining up a shocking move.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan giants are prepared to trade 19-year-old Croatian prospect Alen Halilovic, currently on loan at Sporting Gijón, for Sevilla striker Kevin Gameiro, who has burst onto the La Liga scene this season. On top of Halilovic, Barça would throw in a €20 million fee to complete the deal.

Always according to the report, Barça would keep a buyout clause on Halilovic's Sevilla contract, giving the Catalans the right to bring back the young midfielder at any time for a low fee, similar to a deal the two teams agreed back in 2014 when Denis Suárez joined the Rojiblancos as the condition for Ivan Rakitic's move to the Blaugrana.

With 19 goals and 5 assists in 40 appearances in all competitions this season, Gameiro has become one of the Spanish league's best strikers outside of the Barça-Madrid-Atlético universe. His speed and ability to move around the box make him a good fit for Barça's attacking style, bringing something similar, on a lesser scale, to what Luis Suárez does alongside his 'MSN' partners.

After giving up on Celta Vigo winger Nolito, Luis Enrique has reportedly settled on Gameiro, and sporting director Robert Fernández has watched many Sevilla games in person with his scouting team to analyze the player himself. Since Halilovic will not be joining the Barça first team next season and the coaching staff wants him to play at a bigger Spanish club, this could turn out to be a good deal for all parties involved, from clubs to players.

What do you think, Blaugranes? Happy with the trade, or is Gameiro not good enough for a backup?
