Barcelona suffered a difficult loss that could have title implications, but the coach is not desperate.
Luis Enrique spoke to the press following another defeat at the Anoeta Stadium to Real Sociedad on Saturday. After opening a 10-point gap at the top of the table last month, the Blaugrana are now only three points ahead of Atlético Madrid and just four up on Real Madrid. But according to Enrique, there is no desperation inside the locker room.
But the whole team is conscious of the drop in form in the last several games, and that the margin for error has disappeared. Still, Barça remain leaders and favorites to take the La Liga trophy in Lucho's mind. He also never blamed his players, and asked for support from the fans in the most difficult moment of the entire season.
"Now is not the time to be worried, although a lot of people on the outside will do that. We are in Round 32, we're leaders and three points ahead of Atlético, and four over Madrid. Of course the league is still open and that is what makes us love football, but the best team will win and everything is in place for us to do it.
"I've always said the fans have to be with the team when we need the most and this is one of those moments. We need all Culés, no matter if they're confident in us or not, but I would like to see an atmosphere at Camp Nou next week like never before.
"The players are not machines, they're humans. There are no excuses for the loss but we can't surrender and give room to negative thoughts. We have to pick ourselves up right away and we have a beautiful opportunity to recover and show that we are the best team in the world honoring the crest in our shirts. I am convinced we're going to compete.
"Last year, at the same point in the league, we were up only two points with no advantages and we went on to win. Just like last year, the winner will be the most consistent team in the final six games.
"Of course, three weeks ago we had a much better margin, but the other teams improved and we haven't been ourselves in the last few matches. This moment right now is about seeing where we can improve, because crying and moaning won't get us anywhere. We need better attention to details and I have to see what I can give to the team."
