La Liga: Cordoba CF 0-8 FC Barcelona: Player Ratings

A detailed, player-by-player breakdown of Barcelona's impressive win against Getafe.

Claudio Bravo
8.0
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 29
Passes: 19
Pass Accuracy: 95%
Shots Faced: 1
Saves Made: 1
Cross Claims: 1

Bostjan says: 7.5

You would be forgiven if you watched the entire game and not see Bravo make a single play. His full stat line read one save and one cross claim - he had such a quiet game. The save he made was solid though, as he dove to his right to prevent Patrick Ekeng from scoring, but the game could’ve been more eventful for him had Cordoba had better aim.

Dani Alves
8.4
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 103
Passes: 80
Pass Accuracy: 91%
Key Passes: 3
Turnovers: 2
Tackles: 4
Shots/Shots on Target: 2/0
Clearances: 3
Fouls: 1
Interceptions: 2

Bostjan says: 8.5

This was arguably Alves’ best game in a couple of season. He was a constant attacking threat down the right side, making easy work of any defender in his way. Four out of the seven crosses he sent into the area led to scoring chances, two of which were converted into goals, leading to Alves’ first two assist game since 27 April 2014 against Villarreal. But while his passing was excellent his shooting was absolutely terrible. Defensively he wasn’t called into action much, but when he was he performed admirably.

Gerard Pique
8.4
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 97
Passes: 83
Pass Accuracy: 93%
Tackles: 4
Interceptions: 4
Clearances: 5
Aerial Duels Won: 4

Bostjan says: 8.5

Once again this season Pique found the back of the net, setting new career highs in goals (7) and La Liga goals (5). As the game went on Pique would continuously join in on the attack, but the goal he scored would come from a corner kick. Defensively he wasn’t bad either, making numerous important plays, but on a couple occasions he did lose Florin Andone which could’ve hurt Barcelona on a different day.

Javier Mascherano
7.8
Minutes played: 60
Touches: 68

Tackles: 1
Interceptions: 1
Clearances: 2
Aerial Duels Won: 0

Bostjan says: 8.0

Like many of his defensive teammates, El Jefecito had a quiet game, and like his defensive teammates he too didn’t have a perfect game, making a mistake here and there, but mostly grading out positively. He made an absolutely gorgeous diving tackle midway through the first half to stop a Cordoba attack dead in its tracks and made a couple good plays on top of that.

Jordi Alba
7.7
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 80
Passes: 63
Pass Accuracy: 89%
Shots/Shots on Target: 0/0
Tackles: 2
Interceptions: 5
Clearances: 3
Key Passes: 3
Turnovers: 2

Bostjan says: 7.5

Alba didn’t really do much on the left side, perhaps due to the knock he picked up. While he was constantly on the move his play lacked an end product, though he made a few good overlapping runs and provided width which helped Barcelona carve up the Cordoba defense. Even though he spent large parts of the game in attack, Alba was rarely caught out of position defensively, often using his blazing speed to get back into position.

Sergio Busquets
7.6
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 84
Passes: 76
Pass Accuracy: 93%
Shots/Shots on Target: 0/0
Tackles: 3
Interceptions: 1
Clearances: 1
Turnovers: 0
Aerial Duels Won: 3
Key Passes: 0
Fouls Won: 2

Sam says: 8.0

Not a whole lot for Busquets to do in the game in terms of stopping Cordoba’s attacks but when called upon he did well, making three tackles and one interception. Passing wise he was one of the best on the pitch completing the third highest number of passes and only Claudio Bravo had a better success rate of the starting eleven.

Andres Iniesta
8.2
Minutes played: 60
Touches: 68
Passes: 57
Pass Accuracy: 88%
Shots/Shots on Target: 3/1
Turnovers: 1
Key Passes: 1
Successful Dribbles: 1
Tackles: 2

Sam says: 9.0

Iniesta was dangerous throughout and he was always looking for ways to break down the defence. He registered an assist in the match after his cross was met by Luis Suárez which allowed Barcelona to take a two goal advantage. His passing helped Barcelona maintain control and by the time the hour mark came up, Barcelona were comfortably ahead which met Iniesta could be rested for the midweek tie against Bayern Munich.

Ivan Rakitić
8.3
Minutes played: 68
Touches: 74
Passes: 59
Pass Accuracy: 90%
Shots/Shots on Target: 1/1
Fouls Won: 3
Turnovers: 0
Successful Dribbles: 0
Key Passes: 4
Tackles: 1

Sam says: 8.5

Rakitic opened the scoring for Barça after receiving a chipped through ball from Messi, the Croatian proceeded to blast the ball into the roof of the net and set Barcelona on their way.  Later in the game, Rakitic turned into the provider as his floated corner was headed goal bound by Gerard Piqué. Rakitic’s passing was also excellent throughout and left the field on the 78th minute mark with his head held high.

Luis Suarez

A complete striker’s performance. Suarez keeps getting better and better with every game. He constantly opened up space for others with his movement and by occupying defenders. Crucially, he was absolutely clinical against Cordoba, scoring his first hat-trick - a perfect one (a left-foot, a right-foot and a header) from three shots on target. The Uruguayan played several key passes and was also credited with an assist by WhoScored. Would have had another assist had Neymar not missed a sitter. Suarez is without a doubt the key difference between this side and Tata Martino’s team last season.

Lionel Messi
9.4
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 89

Shots/Shots on Target: 8/3
Fouls Won: 0
Successful Dribbles: 3

Yet another outstanding performance and he wasn't even at his best. In reality, there isn’t much more to say about him. Brilliant passing, dribbling and finishing. Messi scored two and assisted one. Again, he could have had more assists had others finished off their chances.  The Argentine unselfishly allowed Neymar to take the penalty instead of taking it himself for a hat-trick, thus exemplifying the fact that he puts the team’s unity, momentum and overall success over individual awards.

Neymar
8.0
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 67
Passes: 50
Pass Accuracy: 82%
Shots/Shots on Target: 6/2
Tackles: 1
Key Passes: 1
Successful Dribbles: 2
Turnovers: 2

Ahmed says: 7.5

Not really Neymar’s day. His movement and blistering pace caused Cordoba no end of problems. Yet he should have received a yellow card for a rash foul in the first-half. Neymar missed three excellent chances to score and his final pass could at times have been better. The Brazilian therefore had a frustrating afternoon until he was brought down for the penalty and showed composure by converting it into the bottom corner.

Xavi
7.9
Minutes played: 30
Touches: 52
Passes: 51
Pass Accuracy: 98%
Key Passes: 1

Arron says: 7.0

Our club captain replaced the vice captain with about half an hour left to play, probably in as clear an indication as any that he won't start in midweek against his former coach. With the match over, Xavi's job was to help us to retain possession and generally conserve as much energy as possible, letting the ball and the Cordoba players do the work for us -- and it worked as we extended our lead with a couple of late goals. Not a bad shift, even if Xavi didn't directly contribute.

Jeremy Mathieu
7.2
Minutes played: 30
Touches: 20
Passes: 19
Pass Accuracy: 95%
Interceptions: 1

Arron says: 7.0

The Frenchman really established himself in the first-team picture towards the end of March and at the start of April, scoring a couple of crucial goals before ultimately dropping down to the bench again as Javier Mascherano returned to the backline. This substitution seems to suggest that Mathieu will be benched again for Bayern, but his cameo also suggests that he remains a solid option if Lucho does want to mix things up.

Pedro
7.5
Minutes played: 22
Touches: 31
Passes: 29
Pass Accuracy: 97%
Key Passes: 1

Arron says: 7.0

Eight goals this time, and not a single one was scored by Pedro. I mean, we had Gerard Pique and Ivan Rakitic on the scoresheet, but not Pedro. The good news is, Pedro's game could be defined by other metrics; his passing was superb for instance, probably better than Neymar's on the day, and he also helped out defensively, even in the heat and with the game over. Then again, the fact that he has scored the same number of La Liga goals as Pique and Rakitic this season is a little concerning.

The Team 9.4
Passes: 774
Pass Accuracy: 91%
Shots/Shots on Target: 27/11
Tackles: 19
Aerial Battles Won: 85%
Fouls Won/Committed: 11/3

Arron says: 10.0

Well, I'm not sure if there's another grade appropriate for this kind of performance. Sure, Cordoba are rooted to the bottom of the league and genuinely are the worst side in the division, but with a UEFA Champions League semi-final first-leg against Bayern Munich upcoming, this could have been a potential banana skin. Factor in the sweltering afternoon heat in Andalusia and this Barcelona performance might just be one of the best of the season. Once we got going, Cordoba had no answer and even in second gear, we were ruthless in dispatching the chances we created. Entering the tie against PSG, there was a concern that we weren't being clinical enough. Not so now, watch out Bayern.

Luis Enrique
8.8

Arron says: 10.0

This is very much subject to change, pending our performance and the result against Bayern Munich. If any of the frontline look tired, well, the decision to start them here looks a little worse. If we win again, it really doesn't matter. Maybe the subs could have come a little earlier, but again, it might not matter on Wednesday either.

MOTM - Luis Suarez
46%

Bostjan says: Suarez

It should come as no surprise that this was a two-man race from the beginning - between Suarez and Messi. When all the votes were counted, and then re-counted, Suarez came out victorious, edging Messi by only 3 votes. Third place went to Neymar who picked up 3% of the votes.
