You have to give them points for optimism I guess: the Madridista press have been making their own headlines this week, claiming that ten wins from ten would be enough for Real Madrid to win the La Liga title. A total of 94 points would have been enough to win last year's crown; yet the likes of AS and Marca appear to be forgetting: Real Madrid do not hold their destiny in their own hands.
They had a chance to become the makers of their own destiny a fortnight ago in El Clasico, but they blew that chance and even 10 wins from 10 may not be enough to secure the title. Indeed, if Madrid did claim those ten wins against all the odds, Barça would "only" need to claim nine wins in response -- or just 27 points. That could mean seven wins and three draws, let's say against Atletico Madrid, Valencia and Sevilla. Our schedule might be tough, but we don't need to be perfect. We've earned that right, and it's a superb cushion to have.
Alas, the cushion is only really useful if we maintain it for as long as possible. Surrendering half, or the majority of our lead over Real Madrid tonight would put us back to square one, something we cannot afford after our efforts in the Clasico. The FIFA Virus will be out to get us. Celta Vigo will want to secure a historic double over the Blaugrana. It's up to us to stop them; can Barça maintain their lead at the top of the pile, or will the pressure get to them?
