5 Observations from Sevilla vs Barcelona

FC Barcelona was on the road today as they faced Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium. Real Madrid had won earlier in the day, making the margin of error even slimmer than it already was. In the end, Barça drew 2-2, after a hard fought game.

Barça CAN’T afford anymore blunders

Barça now have only a two point lead over Real Madrid, with some incredibly hard fixtures yet to be played. Our chance to gain three points at Sevilla was taken, after a brilliant counter-attack, leaving us with only one point. Now, with Real Madrid behind us, following our every move, Barça simply cannot afford to slip up if we want to win the league. Madrid will be waiting for any mistakes, and will punish them. Every game is a final now.

The League is FAR from over

We may have dropped two points, but Real also have to play at Sevilla. While we shouldn’t rely on our rivals losses, it comforting to know that there are many fixtures that present roadblocks for Madrid. The same is true with us. We play Valencia at home, and Atletico Madrid away for a total of six points. Real meanwhile, play Malaga away, Sevilla away, Valencia at home, and Celta Vigo away. La Liga is NOT over.

Pique is still prone to the odd bit of carelessness

It’s hard to find faults in Pique’s performance today. He played exceptionally well, and was everywhere. His first mistake was the costliest of the game. He made a pass which was intercepted, and the resulting goal robbed Barça of two points. We saw this against Villarreal as well. A misplaced pass led to a goal from Vietto, and almost took points from Barça. Against big teams, this will be disastrous. Pique needs to be careful.

No time to rest

Barça has no time to rest, as a showdown with PSG is right on the horizon. The team will need to be on top form to win at the Parc de Princes. After the UCL, we play Valencia in the Camp Nou, another title deciding game that we simply cannot afford to take lightly. The Champions League returns the subsequent week, after which we play Espanyol away. This month will make or break Barça's season.

The mark of champions

The players, the coach, and the fans are all showing the right attitude. We cannot let this draw get to our head, or more importantly, the players. The team needs to be strong of mind and strong willed. Luckily we have the perfect coach for this sort of thing. Lucho will not allow this to get into the dressing room atmosphere. How we react to this is of paramount importance. The reaction must be positive, and decisive. We must show the footballing world, and more importantly ourselves, that a draw at Sevilla was simply a misstep. I have complete faith that Lucho will whip the mentality of this team into shape.
