Paris Saint-Germain just got a big boost of confidence ahead of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final match against Barcelona.
The Kings of France won another French League Cup title, their fifth, by beating Bastia 4-0 on Saturday. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani scored a brace each en route to a pretty dominant performance by Laurent Blanc's squad. It was PSG's first title this season, but they still can win another three competitions: they're the finalists at the French Cup, Ligue 1 leaders and can still win the UCL.
It was an easy game for PSG, that was made even easier when Bastia center-back Squillaci was sent off after committing a penalty on Lavezzi. Ibrahimovic converted the try and opened up the score. Still in the first half, Ibra would score a golazo to basically guarantee the trophy.
But they were not done. Cavani was subbed in after halftime and scored a brace of his own, first with a pretty header, then with an easy garbage-time score.
Despite the win, PSG has a tremendous challenge ahead on Wednesday against Barça. Not just because it's Barça, but because the French have a plethora of players who will miss the game. Ibrahimovic and Marco Verratti are suspended for booking reasons, while David Luiz and Thiago Motta are injured. That depleted roster will have to maximize its potential in order to beat the Blaugrana, who are in great form.
But with Saturday's win, they get a lot of confidence for what promises to be a huge two-game clash. Can't wait for it.
