Barcelona has already made plans for the 2015 preseason.
The Blaugrana will take part in the 3rd edition of the North American Internation Champions Cup, a tournament organized by Relevant Sports and that takes place between July 11th and August 5th. The competition is played in a league format. Each team plays a total of four games and the winner is the one that gets the most points. But the points system is not one that most European sides are used to. There are three points for a win, while if a game ends in a draw, there is a penalty shootout, and the winning team gets two points and the loser gets one.
Barça will tour the United States for the first three games of the Cup: on July 21th, they'll play the LA Galaxy at the Rose Bowl. Four days later, they'll play Manchester United at Levi's Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers -- so I guess we'll finally see someone making accurate passes in that stadium, right Colin Kaepernick? For the final game of the U.S. tour, the Blaugrana will face their Premier League rivals Chelsea at FedEx Field in Washington, D.C., home of the Washington Redskins -- or, as I like to call it, the Washington Professional Football Team, but that's a topic for another day.
For the fourth and final game of the Champions Cup, Barça will travel to Florence, Italy on May 2nd to play Fiorentina. The Catalans did not make a huge tour this past preseason, as they only traveled to Italy and France for friendly games against Napoli and Nice after a period of training in England. Not this year. Gotta make some money, right?
