The boss wants his team to improve in the Champions League
Ernesto Valverde said Barcelona must learn to manage games better after struggling to a 2-1 win over Slavia Prague in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Barcelona looked set for a comfortable night after scoring early through Lionel Messi but actually found it really tough going against the Czech champions.
Goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen had a busy evening in the visitors’ goal, and Valverde said after the match he was not surprised by the hosts’ performance.
“That was exactly the Slavia performance we expected. When we lost the ball they threw people forward and by the end they took so many risks it was like defending against an avalanche of attacks.
“Games like this we have to learn how to manage better. We had better, clearer chances but we lacked the cold-blooded calmness in their half which could have sealed the result.”

Barcelona secured victory through an own goal to send them out on their own at the top of the group, but this was not a performance that will assuage doubts over the team’s form away from home, particularly in Europe.
