Seri was a done deal with Barcelona, say Nice

The club have tried to explain why the move failed

Barcelona’s pursuit of Jean Michael Seri has taken a new twist tonight with Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere giving his version of events.

If you remember, the Blaugrana had appeared all set to land the Nice midfielder, until reportedly changing their minds at the last minute.

Seri has also given his account, where he hinted the move had collapsed as the two clubs had been unable to agree a fee.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Nice chief has a different recollection of the events, and he says a price had been agreed and it was essentially done deal.

"The two clubs had agreed a price of 40 million euros, but the situation changed at the last moment,” he said.

"Jean Pierre, I don't understand this at all. Barcelona just called. Bartomeu, somewhat embarrassed, told me they don't want Seri.

"It was basically a done deal. If I put myself in Seri's shoes it's very tough. He was close to his dream move to Barça, but it was shattered overnight.”

It’s difficult to know who is telling the truth in this story, but the real victim is Seri who believed he was heading to Camp Nou, only to see his dreams dashed.

And we still don’t really know why.
