Barcelona Draw Real Murcia in the Copa del Rey

Who are Real Murcia?

Barcelona’s first opponent in the Copa del Rey will be Real Murcia, a team from Segunda Division B, Spain’s third tier.

Los Pimentoneros are currently 13th in Segunda B’s Group 4. They’re a team with some history, having played 18 seasons in the top flight, the last coming in 2008.

Barcelona won both their meetings that season, with a 4-0 at Camp Nou and a 5-3 win away. Barcelona's historical record against Murcia is: 42 played, 30 won, 7 drawn, and 5 lost.

Murcia in their time have been coached by two Barcelona legends: Antoni Ramallets and Laszlo Kubala. They were also once managed by a Real Madrid legend, Ferenc Puskas.

The team has three former Barcelona B players. David Sanchez and Victor Curto both left Barça in 2003, while Salva Chamorro left last year.

The first leg will be played at Estadio Nueva Condomina in Murcia, in the southeast of Spain, on October 24th, 25th, or 26th. That's between the home game against Malaga and the away trip to Athletic Bilbao. The second leg, at Camp Nou, will be on November 28th, 29th, or 30th, after the away trip to Valencia and before the home game against Celta Vigo.
