Barcelona 6-1 Eibar: Player Ratings

Yours and Sam’s scores from a big home win.

Marc-André ter Stegen

Made a crucial save within the opening five minutes to keep the score level. Was again on hand to stop Eibar in the second half and his save led to a counterattack which Barça scored from. A good all round performance.

Nélson Semedo

Earned his side a penalty after a neat one-two with Iniesta although he was at fault for the Eibar goal. He did not get across quickly to stop the cross but in all fairness, it was an excellent delivery from a reasonable distance out. Elsewhere, he was excellent.

Javier Mascherano

Made the most interceptions of any Barça player which stopped Eibar’s attacks before they really even started. With the team pushing forward, Mascherano’s job becomes about sitting deep and starting plays from the centre back position. Through his interceptions and his 88.5% passing accuracy, he did this well.

Gerard Piqué

Completing the most amount of passes of any Barça player showed the kind of game Piqué had. Less about defending, more about being Barça’s first attacker. He recorded the most amount of touches of any player and was perhaps less defence minded than he should have been at times.

Lucas Digne

Continually looked to get forward which helped as Denis Suárez would often favour to cut inside and allow his full back to run on the overlap. Defensively he was also strong with three tackles, three clearances and an interception.

Paulinho

The man who has already gone some way in proving his doubters wrong was back at it against EIbar. Rising well in the 38th minute to head home from a Denis Suárez corner. It was a powerful header afforded to Paulinho as he was left unmarked. Encouraging for Barcelona fans was the link up play he showed with Lionel Messi. Time and time again, the pair found each other and many goals were created through this partnership.

Sergio Busquets

Kept any chance of an Eibar counterattack to a minimum which was key with so many players pushing forward. The third most accurate passer and second highest amount of tackles helped Barça maintain control. Was given a rest in the 64th minute with the team cruising.

Andrés Iniesta

With Paulinho being the more advanaced of the midfield there, Iniesta’s job was very much one of control. Just keep the ball moving in Barça’s favour. He didn't see as much of the ball as normal and left the field in the 62nd minute.

Gerard Deulofeu

Often playing as the furthest forward of the front three, Deulofeu was unlucky on occasion to be ruled offside when a perhaps more lenient linesman would have given him the benefit of the doubt.

Lionel Messi

Another match, another Messi masterclass. The Argentine was superb in this game and his accuracy with which he finished his chances left the Eibar keeper with simply no chance. Opening his account with a deft chip from the penalty spot, Messi continued to probe for goals from his false nine position. His second was an excellently placed effort into the bottom corner. Another match ball to add to the collection.

Denis Suárez

Not playing in his natural position, Denis Suárez did very well as the left arm of the trident. Producing accurate set pieces to create goals whilst also having a striker’s instinct to follow in and score himself. It was a very accomplished performance from the Spaniard and will put him in contention for a starting spot should this form continue.

Ivan Rakitić

Kept the status quo as he replaced Busquets in the 64th minute.

Sergi Roberto

Brought on to freshen the game up and solidify Barça’s back line.

Aleix Vidal

Part of a smart one two with Messi that got the Argentine his fourth.

The Team

A slightly shaky first half improved dramatically in the second period.

Ernesto Valverde

Not a lot the coach needed to do with a performance like this. Made sure Messi saw a lot of the ball by playing him in the false nine and brought in fresh legs when needed.
