Deportivo Alavés vs Barcelona, 2017 La Liga: Final Score 0-6, Barça dominate, win on the road

Too easy.

Barcelona had a pretty comfortable tune-up fight for the UEFA Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain with a dominant 6-0 La Liga victory on the road against Alavés. The Blaugrana controlled the entire match and scored plenty of goals to increase the confidence ahead of the trip to Paris, and for a few hours climb to the top of the La Liga table. But the game ended with a sad note, as Aleix Vidal suffered a gruesome injury that ends his season.

FIRST HALF

Alavés had basically a reserve team on the pitch after their Copa del Rey heroics in midweek, and the hosts decided to stay deep and close to their goal, giving Barça the ball and hoping to not open any gaps for the Blaugrana to exploit.

The visitors were patient in possession and created some good chances, but they had to wait until the end of the half to find the goals. First, a nicely worked team move ended with Aleix Vidal firing a perfect cross on the ground for Suárez to tap the ball into the net. Two minutes later, the MSN combined and Neymar got another tap-in.

At halftime, a very comfortable performance from Barça, and a commanding lead.

SECOND HALF

The Blaugrana were just looking to manage the clock and avoid any dangerous chances from Alavés to maintain the result and perhaps score another goal to effectively end the match. The game plan worked to perfection happened when Lionel Messi recovered a ball close to the box and fired a rocket past the keeper. Game over.

The goals kept coming, first with Alavés defender Alexis scoring against his own net, followed by Rakitic firing to the top corner and rounding up the score with a beautiful strike. The sixth happened with the 'MSN' on the counter, and Suárez finishing to get his second of the match.

The game was obviously over at this point, so Barça just ran off the clock. Great win, very solid performance, smart and effective squad rotation, boost of confidence to play in France. It was looking like a perfect afternoon, until Aleix Vidal was the victim of a challenge and broke his ankle, which almost certainly ends his season. Horrible moment.
