The B teamer is in the squad for the trip
Luis Enrique has chosen to call up youngster Carles Aleñá from Barça B to make up the numbers for Barcelona’s La Liga match against Alavés on Saturday. Javier Mascherano and Rafinha are injured, while Jordi Masip has been left out because the team only needs two keepers. In addition, Gerard Piqué and Arda Turan will be rested.
Fitness concerns loom large for Luis Enrique as the Blaugrana prepare for their UEFA Champions League Round of 32 match against Paris Saint-Germain. The game is next Tuesday, in Paris, just three days after the team faces Alavés, and Enrique wants his team to be fresh for the first European trip of 2017, which gave a chance for Aleñá to be back with the group..
Aleñá has already logged minutes for the senior team and even scored a goal this season in the Copa del Rey Round of 32 match against Hércules a couple of months ago. The young Spaniard traveled with the team to Qatar for a friendly against Al-Ahli at the end of 2016, but picked up a muscle injury and couldn't play for the B team during the month of January.
It's unlikely that Aleñá will play against Alavés, but his presence in the squad is always a big opportunity for Barça B players like him to be around the first team players and enjoy the experience with the big boys.
