The European season kicks off on Tuesday for Barça
The European season is here! Barcelona kick off their Champions League campaign at Camp Nou, on Tuesday against Celtic FC. It's an important match that's even more important after the weekend's disappointment against Alavés.
That shocking loss brought some pressure to the Catalans ahead of their Europen Cup opener, and they now need to prove they are still a great team by having a great performance and a great win against the Scottish champions.
Luis Enrique has some very good news ahead of the game, with every single member of the Blaugrana squad healthy and available for selection. That includes goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, who had a slight hamstring problem and didn't play against Alavés, but trained normally on Monday and should be able to play without any issues.
Portuguese midfielder André Gomes is recovering nicely from a muscle bruise, and while he isn't fully healthy, he's good enough for the bench, if needed. Lionel Messi is still carefully nursing his groin problem, but there's no worries about his participation in Tuesday's match, especially after coming off the bench against Alavés.
After a major rotation of his starting lineup on Saturday, Enrique will certainly bring back all of his big players for the match, and this is the eleven we are most likely to see playing against Celtic:
Ter Stegen
Sergi Roberto - Gerard Piqué - Samuel Umtiti - Jordi Alba
Ivan Rakitic - Sergio Busquets - Andrés Iniesta
Lionel Messi - Luis Suárez - Neymar Jr.
With the departure of Dani Alves and the early form of Sammy Umtiti, this appears to be the new Gala XI, the best Barcelona side available for the most important games. Piqué and Umtiti have done very well together and this has to be the center-back partnership, with Javier Mascherano serving as backup at the moment.
Roberto has been a great full-back, and after Aleix Vidal's poor showing last Saturday, Sergi is the best right-back available, and should continue to start most of the games. The midfield and attacking trios are the same as last season, and there's no reason to change it.
What is your favorite starting lineup for Tuesday's game, Blaugranes?
