FC Barcelona News: 9 October 2015: Barca Back Messi In Tax Case, Rakitic Wins Top Award

Club issues statement regarding the State Attorney's accusations of tax fraud against the Argentinian striker.
FC Barcelona and Croatia national team midfielder Ivan Rakitic received the award for best Croatian player of 2015 according to the Zagreb-based daily newspaper Vecernji List. The decision to name Rakitic this year's winner was based on his contributions to both Barça and the national team, as well as his influence during the Club's treble-winning season.
The very first South American qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup in Russia were played on Thursday night, with three FC Barcelona players seeing action. Spain currently lead Group C with 21 points, two more than Slovakia and five more than Ukraine. With a sizeable goal difference in hand, Del Bosque's side need only a draw in one of their final two qualifiers in order to clinch a spot at the big dance.

Catalan publication Sport report the Spanish champions are looking for a new forward similar to former striker Henrik Larsson in terms of experience levels. Larsson signed for the club in 2004 and was a fan favourite throughout his time at the Nou Camp. Kuyt, who currently plays for Dutch side Feyenoord, spent six years at Liverpool making 286 appearances.

Toronto FC's Sebastian Giovinco is reportedly being considered by Barcelona, along with a long list of other options. The Atomic Ant finally exploded upon leaving Juventus and joining the Major League Soccer club, scoring 21 goals for his team so far. While their first option is Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus, there is an extensive list of alternatives which includes Celta Vigo's Nolito, Salzburg's Jonathan Soriano, Al Rayyan's Sergio Garcia, Paris Saint-Germain's Ezequiel Lavezzi, and Giovinco himself.
