Tuesday night was a good one for the Barcelona internationals that played for their teams, especially in American soil. The trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr. and Rafinha Alcântara all scored and played key roles on their respective friendlies.
Argentina faced Mexico at AT&T Stadium in Dallas in the last friendly before the South American Qualifiers for the Albiceleste, and Messi saved his team from a loss with a last-minute goal to get a 2-2 draw after trailing for most of the game.
The story was totally different for the Brazilian Blaugranes, as they helped the Seleção destroy the United States with a comfortable, dominant 4-1 win at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. Neymar only played 45 minutes, but was still able to manage a brace and reach 46 goals with his national team, becoming the youngest ever player in Brazil history to bag that many scores. Rafinha also got on the board, opening his senior team account with the Canarinho.
Argentina 2-2 Mexico: Back from the dead
The Albiceleste were set to end their US tour with a disappointing loss after routing Bolivia just three days earlier. Mexico wasn't the better side, but they still found the net twice and led the game for a huge portion. But the two highest active scorers in Argentina history came to the rescue. With only five minutes to go, Sergio Agüero scored a tap-in to give the Argentines some life. And then the Manchester City star found Messi with one minute to go, and the Barça number 10 scored the equalizer to finish the night in Dallas with a better result.
Brazil 4-1 USA: Back from the dead, Part II
Since the 2014 World Cup and that unforgettable 7-1 loss to Germany, Brazil has struggled to find its identity again. Coach Dunga seemed to have brought the Seleção back with 11 straight wins to start his second stint as manager, but a horrible Copa América showed there's was a long road ahead in the search for redemption. But Tuesday's destruction of the US may have provided a good sign. Sure, Brazil still needed a great Neymar performance to get more goals, but the overall game was encouraging. A lot of young and talented players got a chance to show their skills, and the team looked good for the first time in a long time. Maybe this is the start of something.
