Celta Vigo vs Barcelona, La Liga: Final Score 4-1 as Celestes destroy Barça

Barcelona's perfect record in La Liga is already over, and the first negative result of the season came in categorical fashion, as the former league leaders were absolutely trounced by Celta Vigo, who won 4-1 with a counter-attacking masterpiece, as goals from Nolito, Iago Aspas (twice) and John Guidetti secured the fantastic victory for the Celestes, while Brazilian striker Neymar got the Blaugranes' consolation goal. The Catalan giants were uninspired and sloppy, and faced an intense and brilliant team who dominated them and deservedly ended the defending champions' winning streak.

FIRST HALF

What bus?

Anyone who expected the hosts to sit back and defend against Barça didn't watch the four great performances of Celta so far. And they got surprised, as well as the Blaugrana, by dominant and high-pressing side who got the ball for the better part of the half and forced the Catalans into a ridiculous number of missed passes. The Blaugranes couldn't get anything going, especially due to a terrible first half performance by Sergi Roberto, who returned to the midfield and did not come as close to being the competent right-back from the previous games. The MSN trio was also off track for most of the first 45 minutes, and they created very few chances themselves.

Celta, on the other hand, was sharp and precise, and took advantage of defensive mistakes from the opposition to score two beautiful goals. Nolito saw Barça keeper Ter Stegen a little out of position and place a spectacular right-footer to the top corner, giving his team the lead. Shortly after, returning defender Gerard Piqué mishandled a pass, and the ball fell to Iago Aspas, who calmly chipped the ball over Stegen to make it 2-0.

With a huge deficit on the score and performance level, Barça finally got a little bit into the game, but saw a very compact Celta defense stop every opportunity before they became dangerous. After a disastrous first 45, the Blaugrana needed plenty of changes to turn things around.

SECOND HALF

Things didn't look promising to start the second half. Only five minutes in, Busquets gave the ball away, and Aspas came alone in the box, and this time missed the goal by only a hair. Two minutes later, Neymar created a counter-attack out of nowhere, gave it to Andrés Iniesta, and he found Lionel Messi all alone in front of the goal, but the Argentine could only hit the post. And then, after Messi missed another chance, Iago Aspas ran away from the whole defense on a counter, and this time scored the third. Game over.

Barça got a little hope after a spectacular pass from Messi found Neymar Jr. on the box, and the Brazlian buried home the team's lone goal. But any excitement was killed by Guidetti, who took advantage of another mistake by Piqué to score the fourth and final goal from the hosts. In the end, a much deserved 4-1 destruction by a Celta team that will do a lot of great things this season.
