La Liga News: 27 September 2015; Villarreal Take La Liga Lead, Real Madrid Held by Malaga

Real Madrid held by Malaga despite having 30 shots on goal - ESPN FC
Rafa Benitez's men had a total of 30 shots on goal throughout the game and played the final 13 minutes with an extra man as Nordin Amrabat was sent off, but still failed to find the net. It is the first time they have failed to score at home in 56 competitive games.

Sevilla FC 3-2 Rayo Vallecano - ESPN FC
Yevhen Konoplyanka's first league goal for Sevilla earned them a 3-2 victory against Rayo Vallecano and saw Los Rojiblancos climb off the foot of the La Liga table. Sevilla looked to be coasting to their first domestic win of the season as they led at the break courtesy of goals from Kevin Gameiro and Steven N'Zonzi, but Bebe and Javi Guerra struck to wipe out their two-goal lead.

Villarreal go top of the table for the first time ever! - Villarreal USA
With today's win, Villarreal is guaranteed to finish top of the table at the end of this weeks' matches, for the first time EVER. Some of you may remember we had a chance to do this in 2010-11, in the seventh jornada of La Liga (interestingly, after beating Espanyol at home and Malaga on the road, as this season), but we were only able to draw 2-2 with Hercules in Alicante, a wild match where we had two players sent off--as far as I can remember, the last time that has happened.

Sporting Gijon 1-2 Real Betis - ESPN FC
Real Betis produced a second-half turnaround to win 2-1 at Sporting Gijon and pick up their first away victory of the season. Carlos Castro put the hosts ahead in the 16th minute but Joaquin headed Betis level two minutes after the break and then Ruben Castro completed the turnaround with an impressive strike from outside the area.

Mel: Injuries not an excuse | Football Espana
Pepe Mel says he will not refer to the absences of Rafael van der Vaart and Juan Vargas if Real Betis lose to Sporting Gijon in Sunday’s early kick-off. The pair were not included in the squad which travelled to Asturia for the battle of the new boys, but the Coach is in no mood to look for excuses as he instructed his side to work hard for the win.

Eibar 1-1 Celta Vigo - ESPN FC
Just three days after helping thrash Barcelona, Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas rescued a point against Eibar. Aspas netted twice in the unexpected 4-1 win over the defending champions on Wednesday and was climbed off the bench to force a draw at the Municipal de Ipurua.
