FIFA has expressively prohibited the Spanish Football Federation to block the registration of new Barcelona signing Arda Turan. The Catalan club made an official request last week to both organizations in an attempt to register the Turkish midfielder to replace injured Blaugrana Rafinha Alcântara, but now there is confirmation that the attempts have failed.
Arda was signed from Atlético Madrid during last summer's window, when Barça was still banned by FIFA and not allowed to register Turan and Aleix Vidal, the other transfer made a few months ago. But because of the knee inury that is likely season-ending for Rafinha, Barça found an exception in the rules of the Spanish Federation that allows a club to register a player in order to replace another squad member in case of a serious injury, which is exactly the case.
And FIFA decided not only to maintain their ruling, but also to force the Spanish FA to make a change in their rulebook to avoid other teams that may try the same strategy as Barça did. According to football's governing body, Spain's regulations goes against FIFA's rule of allowing registrations only during the winter and summer transfer periods.
So there you have it. Arda will have to wait until January. And FIFA is absurd.
