Robert Lewandowski Set To Return Against FC Barcelona

The Polish striker has been battling a facial injury and a concussion, but fully expects to be back in time for the match against FC Barcelona at the Camp Nou

You've probably seen the pictures by now; Robert Lewandowski training in a protective mask after he was sidelined last week courtesy of a nasty collision with Mitchell Langerak, a collision that left him with a broken jaw, broken nose and a concussion. Aside from looking like an extra from Zorro, or perhaps a misguided Phantom of the Opera, Lewandowski has been vowing to return in time for Wednesday's UEFA Champions League semi-final first-leg against FC Barcelona, and according to his latest update, he has won the battle.

Taking to his official Twitter account, Lewa wasn't about to engage in the "banter" that we saw from Barcelona and Bayern's accounts; nah, he was all about getting down to business with one simple message:

Of course, there is still the small matter of being cleared to return by the club's medical team, although that seems like a mere formality at this stage, as Lewandowski looks set to give Pep Guardiola some much-needed good news on the injury front.

The return of their top scorer is sure to be welcomed in Bavaria, particularly after Matthias Sammer's less than optimistic comments on the subject, but Pep must be careful with the Polish international's long-term fitness. Head injuries are very topical at the moment and rushing Lewa back before he is 100% could lead to long-term consequences for both the club and the player.

Bayern know what they're doing though, and it'll be good to see another world-class player take to the field at the Camp Nou on Wednesday. That way, Bayern have one less excuse if we win...
