5 observations from Cordoba vs Barcelona

FC Barcelona played Cordoba in La Liga to stay ahead of Real Madrid in the race for the title. Here are a few observations.

Barça are in fine form

With six goals against Getafe, and now eight goals against Cordoba, Barça are in fine goal scoring form. Messi has scored four goals in two games, . Neymar has two goals in two games, and Suárez has five, bagging his first hat trick in Barcelona colors. Aside from the attack, Barça's defense is a force to be reckoned with as well. Claudio bravo has kept more clean sheets (21) than goals conceded (19). Gerrard Pique continued his sublime form as did the rest of Barça's defense unit. If this keeps up, Barça look primed to win trophies this season.

The team is fighting tooth and nail

One of the major concerns from last season was the fact that the Barça players showed a complete lack of fighting spirit. Tata Martino’s side looked without motivation for the majority of the season, and Tito’s death (RIP) didn’t help matters. The emotional and physical strain was shared by both fans and players, as Barça finished a dull and trophy-less season. The situation is much different now. The addition of Suárez and Rakitic has injected a competitive edge and energy in this Barça team like we have not seen in the past few seasons. Lucho has also had his effect on the team, seeing as it is molded in his image; a direct and aggressive style of play. This Barça team is ready to fight for every trophy.

Suárez could become Barça's best ever #9

After missing the first two months of the season, Suárez took the next two months to get acclimated to the team. Now, he simply cannot stop scoring. With five goals in his last two games, Suárez is now at 24 goals for the season. If this season is anything to judge by, Suárez will be an absolute goal machine next season. He might even rival Messi for the top scorer crown.

Barça have had world class strikers in the past. Players like Ronaldo Lima, Eto’o, and David Villa have graced the pitch at the Camp Nou. Eto’o was the most successful striker in a Barça's recent history, scoring over 100 goals in all competitions. While it’s too early to tell, this Cule is hoping Suárez scores more.

Cristiano cares more about the Pichichi than Messi does

Neymar scored his second goal in two games from the spot. Messi is Barça's usual penalty taker, instead choosing to let Neymar strike from the spot. This selfless act denied Messi of a hat-trick, which would have increased his (then) lead in the race for the Pichichi.

Now onto Bayern

The biggest test for Lucho’s Barcelona team stands in the shape of Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich team. Barça move onto the Champions League midweek to keep hopes of a treble alive, as Bayern try to win a domestic double by knocking out Barcelona. Despite Bayern's injuries, Pep's team will provide a stern test for Lucho and his men. Barça's defense and attack are in fine form, giving Barça a good chance of advancing.
