The midfielder slash right-back wants a longer deal
Sergi Roberto’s renewal process is expected to take a long time due to a fundamental difference between what the player wants and what FC Barcelona is offering in terms of contract length, according to a new report.
The Catalans are offering a one year extension to his deal, but Roberto apparently feels he should get a longer contract.
The 29 year old midfielder / fullback wants a contract that is, at minimum two years, but Barcelona is wary of giving older players longer deals.
Barcelona’s director of football, Mateu Alemany, has met with Roberto’s agent, Josep Maria Orobitg, but the contacts have not been very productive, so far.
Roberto is said to be willing to negotiate in terms of salary, given the club’s current financial situation, but he is not willing to accept a one year deal.
