A new and improved contract is on the way
Barcelona are reportedly keen to offer a new and improved contract to teenage forward Ansu Fati that runs until 2026.
The youngster’s current deal expires in 2022, with the option for two more, but Barca don’t want to take any chances and are keen to secure his long-term future, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The report adds that Fati’s buyout clause of €400 million could also be increased, although in the current climate that still looks out of the reach of even the richest clubs.
Fati’s missed most of the season because of a knee injury and isn’t expected to play again in 2020-21 for Barcelona after suffering a number of setbacks in his recovery.
MD reckon that Fati has set a new deadline of May 2 to decide whether his recovery is still progressing or whether he needs another operation.
Yet even if he does go under the knife again there is no doubt that Fati remains a key part of the club’s plans for the future and his contract renewal is said to be one of Barca’s current priorities.
