Joan Laporta’s revolution continues

Oscar Grau, former president Josep Maria Bartomeu’s right-hand man, has been sacked as FC Barcelona’s CEO. Joan Laporta, the new club president, has appointed Ferran Reverter to replace him.

Grau had been in charge since 2016, but his exit was communicated to him today. Pere Jansà, director of the club’s social section, has also been let go.

Bartomeu had put him in charge of negotiating transfers for the first team. A former handball player for FC Barcelona, he was also a Spanish international and a European Cup winner in that sport.

Grau wrote a letter to the club’s workers, which read: “Today my second stage at the club I love ends. The first was as a handball player, for more than 10 years in the first team, earning, among other titles, the first European Cup in the section. The second, starting in 2015, first as director of the FCB Escoles, and since September 2016, as CEO, the first athlete of the club to have reached this position. I have left it all on the track and in the offices, with successes and mistakes, but always looking for the best for Barça.”

He went on to thank “the previous Board of Directors for having thought of me for the position of CEO of the club that I love so much. And, of course, I want to thank the Management Committee and all the club’s workers for all the effort and work done during these years. You know me: I have always preached and tried to encourage teamwork. Without your help, effort and commitment, everything that has been achieved would not have been possible. Thanks with all my heart.”
