The defender was replaced by Samuel Umtiti

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman explained why he took Oscar Mingueza off against Getafe just minutes after raging at the youngster on the touchline.

Mingueza started the match once again in central defense but incurred the wrath of his manager in the second half with the score at 3-2 to Barca.

Koeman promptly substituted Mingueza for Samuel Umtiti for the final 15 minutes and didn’t seem to have too much time for the defender after he returned to the dugout.

The Barca boss played down the incident after the match and praised Mingueza for the season he’s having but did warn the youngster the players can’t afford to lose concentration.

“My position with him may be a bit exaggerated. He’s having a great season. The only thing that I think young people have to learn is that if you play for Barça you have to always be involved in games,” he said.

“It’s complicated. Pedri wasn’t there either. His level. Neither was Araujo. The change was not out of anger, but to put Frenkie on the right and give Umtiti minutes, which he deserves.

“I have spoken to Mingueza after the game and there is no problem. If there’s one player who’s having a great season, it’s him.”

It was a surprising outburst from Koeman, particularly given how impressive Mingueza has been this season.

The Dutchman seemed to be feeling the pressure on the touchline after watching Barca concede a sloppy goal to make it 3-2 after appearing to have the game all but wrapped up at half-time.
