Valverde talks Juventus, Dembele, Roberto and Iniesta ahead of Champions League clash

All the latest from the Barcelona coach

Barcelona take on Juventus tomorrow night at Camp Nou as the Champions League kicks off for another season, in a hotly anticipated clash.

Ahead of the game, Ernesto Valverde has faced the press and been discussing the game as well as Andres Iniesta, Ousmane Dembele and Sergi Roberto.

Here are the best bits...

Valverde on Juventus

“We know Juventus are a great team but we’ll try win the game,” he said.

“Juventus are a powerful team that distribute the ball well from the back and who try to press high.

“Last year they caused us a lot of problems so we need to be careful. I’m expecting an intense and important game between two top sides and with a precious result at stake.”

On Paulo Dybala

“We’ll have to keep an eye on Dybala and all the great Juventus players. Dybala is an important player for Juventus and one of the best in the world.

“We're sure of that, but no more than Higuain, Pjanic or other players.”

On Ousmane Dembele

"We will see tomorrow, whether he is a starter or not. If I play him it’s because I think he is ready.

“He is a player, just like the others, who is training well and can come in at any time.

"If he doesn't start tomorrow, he will start soon. Perhaps if he arrived earlier we'd be able to do more, but he's not had long to blend in."

On Sergi Roberto

“We think Sergi Roberto will be available, yesterday he trained well.”

On Andres Iniesta

"We will see it [the plan] for him as the season progresses.

"We must not forget what Iniesta is for us, but we must also keep in mind his age and that he plays in a demanding position.

“That not only happens with him, but also with Rakitic and Busquets. Let’s see in the following games.

"Everyone owns his life and future. What we want is for him to be well and happy."

On the Champions League

“We have to respect every team in this group, and the important thing tomorrow is to get the three points and start our Champions League campaign with a win.

“Who wouldn’t be motivated for a game like this? It’s an exciting and important one.

"I am aware of the responsibility, Barça have won the Champions League several times in recent years, I knew it when I signed, I take it as normal, and so do the players.”
