Paco Alcácer discusses poor Barcelona start: "I have to improve on everything"

The new Barça striker was brutally honest about his bad early form

Paco Alcácer was one of the most surprising signings of the summer transfer window in Spain, as the Valencia star left for Barcelona just 48 hours before the transfer deadline. The Blaugrana were searching for a fourth forward all summer, and Alcácer's signing was celebrated by coaches, officials and fans.

But it is safe to say Paco hasn't been very good. He's failed to find the net in his first three appearances, and he was poor in Barça's Champions League match against Borussia Mönchengladbach, which he started. Alcácer couldn't make any kind of impact on the game, played on 50 minutes and did not look like a €30 million player in any way.

Unlike most footballers who don't like to be criticised and don't criticise themselves, however, Paco is conscious he has to improve. He gave a big interview to Mundo Deportivo that will be published in their print version on Saturday, but MD's online version released a teaser, and it contains a very strong statement by the new Blaugrana striker:

"If they believe I could play here and signed me it's because of my qualities on the pitch and my day-to-day work. Above all else I want to improve and find a solution for the things I'm not good at so I can be a better footballer.

"For this club's level, right now I have to improve on everything. I have some negative things and positive qualities, but once you come to a club this big, there are always things to improve on. And what makes you achieve that is working hard every day".

That's some sincerity there, ladies and gentlemen. And this is very important. Just huge. When a player is aware he has to get better, he'll work his but off to do so. And when the player is as talented as Paco Alcácer, he will become a better player, which will help Barça a lot.
