Report: Bayern Munich to battle Barcelona for the signing of German defender

A few days ago, we reported a shortlist of potential targets that Barcelona will be looking to sign in January. One team will join them to sign one of the players in the list.

According to reports from Spanish media, Barça will be joined by Bayern Munich in the race to sign Valencia center-back Shkodran Mustafi. Bayern manager Pep Guardiola is reportedly worried about the health of his backup defenders, and wants to have another quality player at that position to maintain the incredible depth his squad already possesses.

Mustafi's market value is believed to be in the €20 million range, although Valencia is only willing to sell if any potential buyers meet the reported €50 million release clause in the German's contract. Since joining the Spanish side, Mustafi has been a solid performer. He's also a World Cup winner and attracts the eye of Barça coach Luis Enrique -- and Guardiola as well -- because of his versatility and ability to play either as a central defender or as a full-back.

What do you think, Blaugranes? Should Barça battle Bayern for Mustafi or should we let him go?
