As we reported last week, Barcelona wonderkid Alejandro Grimaldo is set to leave the club next summer since his contract is set to expire and he hasn't been approached for an extension yet. A number of European contenders have already reached out to him for a free transfer next July, and his departure from Catalonia is a foregone conclusion at this point.
The saddest thing about Grimaldo leaving is that he won't get a real chance with the first team. He had very few minutes in Luis Enrique's first preseason at Barça, and the coach has never called the player back since then. Like Sergi Samper, who ironically or not is also set for a move away from Camp Nou, the young full-back has an undeniably bright future ahead of him, but instead of incorporating the player and giving him minutes at weaker games to develop, Enrique decided to use underperfomers like Jérémy Mathieu and Adriano Correia.
So, after more than a year of frustration, Grimaldo is probably leaving, and he blames the first team manager for not even establishing a line of communication for the young boys:
“[Luis Enrique] has never spoken to me. I haven't had any contact with him, nor do I have anything to say to him.”

I can't even find the words to express how absurd this is. It's unbelievable that a coach capable of putting together a Treble-winning group isn't capable of talking to the young players. It's fine if he doesn't see them as first team products right now, or he's protecting them from a high-pressure situation like the one we're in where the team lacks good performances, and it would be unfair to throw some unexperienced kids there.
Even if that Is Lucho's thought process, which is completely plausible and understandable, why are you not saying that to them??? Now they want to leave, and the coach has a lot to do with it.
This is pure sadness.
