The bad: He didn't add much in attack and I would really like to see Mathieu become more of an aerial threat. | |

Suarez was lively in the first-half even whilst being very well marked by the Getafe defenders. He lacked support; Neymar’s brilliance was evidently missed and the team system or ‘identity’ was unclear too. Suarez was fouled a few times and delivered a great cross from the right after twisting and turning like a slithering snake. A few nice touches and a missed bicycle kick in the second-half, otherwise, pretty anonymous and lost the ball on most, if not all occasions. | |

Messi won the only aerial duel and tackle that he had against Getafe. MOTM according to WhoScored further emphasising how misleading stats can be. Nowhere near it for me, but just goes to show the ridiculously high standards that we hold him to. Any other player would be praised to the skies for this performance, yet Messi isn’t any other player. He should have had a penalty following a clear handball by Valera. Messi often got the ball in decent positions but found a wall of players in front of him with the forwards movement lacking. He was fouled and struck a free-kick against the post with Guaita stagnant. He struck another which forced a fine save off the goalkeeper. Fouled time and time again (4 times) and never stopped trying. | |

Surely his creativity, his talent and his record of performing when we need him most would help us secure a much-needed victory? Unfortunately, not even the great Iniesta could stop the rot and like the rest of his colleagues, struggled to make an impact against a resolute Getafe backline. | |

We could have lost to an Eibar, or whatever lowly club you’d like to pick from the La Liga table. I don’t really care about the result though; it’s the performance that upsets me. We never even looked likely to break the deadlock – it’s not like we were denied a win by some heroics from Vicente Guaita, and for me, that’s the inexcusable part. UEFA Champions League hangover or not, poor conditions or not, this was a match we should have won. | |

Arron says: Pique Not much to pick from in this match…my choice for MoTM is Gerard Pique, who completed the most passes and generally looked solid in the heart of defense, even if he was left isolated up against the likes of Angel Lafita and company. Indeed, Pique was also keen to make an impact at the other end of the field, as his adventurous dribble and ambitious shot displayed far more initiative than we saw from the Messi’s and Suarez’s in the match. Bravo came close to picking up the man of the match award with 25% while Messi also came close at 20%. | |
