La Liga: Getafe CF 0-0 FC Barcelona: Player Ratings

A detailed, player-by-player breakdown of Barcelona's disheartening La Liga draw with Getafe.

Claudio Bravo
7.2

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 34

Passes: 23

Pass Accuracy: 78 %

Shots Faced: 2

Saves Made: 2

Clearances: 0

Inder says: 7.5

Made one brilliant save against Lafita after the Getafe player went past Alves and Pique and was given space too easily to get a shot off. Had a quiet game otherwise

Dani Alves
4.3

Minutes played: 79

Touches: 72

Passes: 61

Pass Accuracy: 87 %

Key Passes: 0

Shots/Shots on Target: 0/0

Tackles: 6

Turnovers: 2

Clearances: 0

Fouls: 3

Interceptions: 0

Inder says: 6.5

Seemed lively but didn't lead to an end product offensively and was found wanting in defense on a couple of occasions. Didn't create much with the ball and was overshadowed by Alba. Considering Alves is the only real option at RB, it will be interesting to see how Lucho handles the next couple of games with Alves out injured with an hamstring issue.

Gerard Pique
6.4

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 120

Passes: 107

Pass Accuracy: 90 %

Tackles: 2

Interceptions: 1

Clearances: 6

Fouls: 2

Inder says: 7.0

Probably expected to contribute more in offense, nowadays, but can't blame him for not trying. However, defensively there is no doubt that a consistent run of games is leading to increased confidence which is great for Barca.

Jeremy Mathieu
5.5

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 103

Passes: 93

Pass Accuracy: 91%

Tackles: 2

Interceptions: 3

Clearances: 4

Aerial Duels Won: 2

Fouls: 0

Inder says: 7.0

It didn't matter a few hours after the game and it doesn't matter now cause Mathieu was pretty much invisible the whole game. Like the rest of the defense, to a certain degree, you can look at that as good or bad. The good: Mathieu had a comfortable game in defense and he wasn't really tested. The bad: He didn't add much in attack and I would really like to see Mathieu become more of an aerial threat.

Jordi Alba
5.6

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 90

Passes: 72

Pass Accuracy: 90 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 1/0

Tackles: 2

Interceptions: 0

Clearances: 1

Fouls : 1

Key Passes: 4

Inder says: 7.0

Alba was definitely more active than Dani Alves in attack. Used his pace well, a couple of times, with wide runs that ended in crosses but Barca's attack just couldn't do enough to convert.

Sergio Busquets
5.0

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 106

Passes: 101

Pass Accuracy: 93 %

Tackles: 1

Interceptions: 2

Fouls Won: 5

Clearances: 0

Aerial Duels Won: 1

Turnovers: 0

Key passes: 1

Sam says: 7.0

Defensively, Busquets was very good helping to keep Getafe away from the Barcelona box and ease pressure on the back four. His two interceptions meant Barça couldn't quickly convert defending into attacking but Busquets struggled offensively. Creating few chances and any chances that were created were squandered.

Ivan Rakitić
4.6

Minutes played: 65

Touches: 52

Passes: 46

Pass Accuracy: 85 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 2/0

Turnovers: 1

Key Passes: 0

Fouls Won : 3

Tackles: 1

Sam says: 6.0

Rakitić really struggled to produce anything of note in this game and found his influence fading as the game continued. He didn’t create any clear-cut chances for his teammates and his defensive work was less than it usually is. Enrique recognised this and the Croatian was hauled off in the 65th minute.

Xavi
5.1

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 117

Passes: 105

Pass Accuracy: 88 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 3 /0

Fouls Won: 4

Tackles: 0

Turnovers: 3

Key Passes: 2

Successful Dribbles : 0

Sam says: 7.0

Xavi certainly saw plenty of the ball during the game and helped create some goalscoring opportunities, which the forwards failed to convert. Other than Gerard Piqué, he had the most touches of any player on the field which showed how the game went through him. However his passing was slightly lower than the incredibly high standards we’ve become accustomed to, an insight into how Barça only drew this game.

Luis Suarez
5.2

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 43

Passes: 25

Pass Accuracy: 68 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 4/0

Turnovers: 5

Successful Dribbles: 1

Key Passes: 4

Fouls Won: 2

Tackles: 1

Ahmed says: 6.0

Worked hard but with little end product (no shots on target out of four). Suarez was lively in the first-half even whilst being very well marked by the Getafe defenders. He lacked support; Neymar’s brilliance was evidently missed and the team system or ‘identity’ was unclear too. Suarez was fouled a few times and delivered a great cross from the right after twisting and turning like a slithering snake. A few nice touches and a missed bicycle kick in the second-half, otherwise, pretty anonymous and lost the ball on most, if not all occasions.

Lionel Messi
5.7

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 87

Passes: 60

Pass Accuracy: 73 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 7/2

Fouls Won: 4

Successful Dribbles: 8

Key Passes: 2

Turnovers: 4

Tackles: 1

Ahmed says: 6.5

He completed 8 dribbles out of an attempted 10 giving him an 80% success rate. Messi won the only aerial duel and tackle that he had against Getafe. MOTM according to WhoScored further emphasising how misleading stats can be. Nowhere near it for me, but just goes to show the ridiculously high standards that we hold him to. Any other player would be praised to the skies for this performance, yet Messi isn’t any other player. He should have had a penalty following a clear handball by Valera. Messi often got the ball in decent positions but found a wall of players in front of him with the forwards movement lacking. He was fouled and struck a free-kick against the post with Guaita stagnant. He struck another which forced a fine save off the goalkeeper. Fouled time and time again (4 times) and never stopped trying.

Pedro
4.4

Minutes played: 76

Touches: 62

Passes: 46

Pass Accuracy: 76 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 3 /0

Tackles: 1

Key Passes: 2

Successful Dribbles: 3

Turnovers: 2

Ahmed says: 5.5

Not effective enough. He had three shots, all of which were off target. Interestingly, Pedro made as many key passes (2) as Messi and also completed 3 dribbles to boot. Yet these are merely stats, and the reality is that he really didn’t do much on the pitch. His contributions can be summarised as a couple of decent runs and crosses, hard working and little else. Substituted on the 76th minute.

Andres Iniesta
5.5

Minutes played: 25

Touches: 36

Passes: 28

Pass Accuracy: 93 %

Key Passes : 1

Shots/Shots on Target : 2/0

Arron says: 6.5

Expecting Andres Iniesta alone to turn Barcelona’s fortunes on Saturday was probably a little naïve, but I admit that I felt relieved when I saw the pale-faced midfielder warming up at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. Surely his creativity, his talent and his record of performing when we need him most would help us secure a much-needed victory? Unfortunately, not even the great Iniesta could stop the rot and like the rest of his colleagues, struggled to make an impact against a resolute Getafe backline.

Munir El Haddadi
3.8

Minutes played: 14

Touches: 6

Passes: 2

Pass Accuracy: 100 %

Turnovers : 3

Arron says: 6.5

If memory serves, Munir was one of the few players tracking back towards the end and unless I was mistaken, I thought I overheard the Spanish commentator on my stream commending the young forward’s work-rate as he stopped a potentially dangerous Getafe attack. Still, given that he was brought on to make a difference at the other end I think most Cules were left a little disappointed with his brief cameo.

Adriano Correia
3.8

Minutes played: 11

Touches: 9

Passes: 7

Pass Accuracy: 100 %

Tackles : 1

Arron says: N/A

So, with Dani Alves injured it turns out that we might be seeing a lot more of Adriano Correia. Unless of course Alves recovers quickly, in which case we probably won’t. Based on this brief cameo it won’t make much difference either way – neither Alves nor Adriano are exactly setting the world alight at the moment.

The Team3.9

Passes: 803

Pass Accuracy: 87 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 23 /2

Tackles: 19

Aerial Battles Won: 65 %

Fouls Won/Committed: 24/8

Arron says: 5.0

Ugh. And by that, I mean UGH. Drawing with Getafe isn’t the worst result in the world. We could have lost to Getafe for instance and that would have been far worse. We could have lost to an Eibar, or whatever lowly club you’d like to pick from the La Liga table. I don’t really care about the result though; it’s the performance that upsets me. We never even looked likely to break the deadlock – it’s not like we were denied a win by some heroics from Vicente Guaita, and for me, that’s the inexcusable part. UEFA Champions League hangover or not, poor conditions or not, this was a match we should have won.

Luis Enrique
3.5

Arron says: 6.0

How much of the blame should Enrique get? Well, that’s impossible to say really – the players underperformed for sure, but how much of that was down to Enrique failing to react to the conditions, and to Cosmin Contra, who ultimately out-managed Lucho with a superbly constructed, and superbly executed game plan.

MOTM - None
27%

Arron says: Pique

Not much to pick from in this match…my choice for MoTM is Gerard Pique, who completed the most passes and generally looked solid in the heart of defense, even if he was left isolated up against the likes of Angel Lafita and company. Indeed, Pique was also keen to make an impact at the other end of the field, as his adventurous dribble and ambitious shot displayed far more initiative than we saw from the Messi’s and Suarez’s in the match. Bravo came close to picking up the man of the match award with 25% while Messi also came close at 20%.
