Barcelona have confirmed that Alexia Putellas has undergone knee surgery to assess an ongoing issue.
Alexia hasn’t played for six weeks because of the issue and is now set for a further spell on the sidelines after an operation to try and assess the problem.
Here’s the club’s official statement:
“Women’s first team player Alexia Putellas has undergone revision arthroscopy on her left knee. This intervention was carried out by Dr. Joan Carles Monllau, under the supervision of the Club’s Medical Services, at the Barcelona Hospital. She is out and her evolution will mark her availability.”
There’s no indication of how long Alexia will be out for but hopefully she will be able to return to full fitness soon.
The Barca star missed Euro 2022 due to an ACL tear but did return in time for Spain’s World Cup triumph in the summer.
Alexia also came off the bench in Barca’s Champions League win over Wolfsburg but has struggled this season with her knee problem.
