It’s been a good week for Xavi’s side
Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo feels his team have taken a big step forwards after beating Porto and Atletico this week.
The Catalans secured a place in the last 16 of Europe’s premier club competition in midweek and followed that up with a 1-0 win over Atleti in La Liga.
Here’s what Araujo made of it afterwards:
“We had a lot of opportunities to score the second goal but the ball wouldn’t go in for us and they had chances late on. Credit to Inaki, he kept a clean sheet and that was really important,” he said.
“We know the team we have, we trust in ourselves, results weren’t coming but we’ve taken a huge step forwards both in the Champions League and again tonight. It was such a big game and we’ve moved up the table
Araujo also paid tribute to Inaki Pena who made two vital saves in the second half to preserve a clean sheet for Barcelona.
“I know Inaki from my Barca B days, we played together for the second team. I‘m very happy for him. He has a difficult job replacing Marc but he did that tonight,” he added.
Barcelona now have a free week before returning to action next weekend with another crunch game against Girona.
