The midfielder remains keen to succeed at the Camp Nou
Riqui Puig has been talking about his future and says he has no plans to leave the club despite enduring another frustrating campaign at the Camp Nou in 2019-20.
The midfielder spent most of the season on the bench and seemed unable to convince Ronald Koeman he was worth regular game time.
Yet despite that Puig remains determined to succeed at Barca. The midfielder spoke about his future after being asked what club he would like to play for if he did leave.
“Because of the style of play and because they have a coach who understands football like me, [I’d choose] Manchester City,” he said. “But at the moment I am great at Barcelona and I have no plans to leave.”
“I’m a very ambitious player and I’m not satisfied with the minutes I get,” he added. “I’d like to play many matches, score goals and win titles to be a recognized player, so that the world will know about me!”
Puig also discussed some of the coaches he has worked with at Barcelona and was asked to pick which one he liked the best. It’ll surprise no-one that Koeman was not at the top of his list.
“I think that because of the way he understands football and how he treated me, [I’d choose] Setien,” he said. “He was very close to me, he helped me a lot and I learned a lot from him.”
The youngster will be back for pre-season training next week when he’ll be aiming to try and convince Koeman once again he deserves to play. There were reports earlier in the summer that president Joan Laporta is keen to see Puig feature more and didn’t understand why he’s not had a more prominent role at the club.
