The teenager’s future at the club is unclear
Ilaix Moriba’s future at Barcelona continues to make headlines with the youngster still yet to sign a new contract at the club. The midfielder’s current deal expires in 2022 which means the Catalan giants are keen to secure his future.
There have been plenty of talks but no solution has been found and “tensions are rising between both parties” with Barca taking a tough stance with the youngster, according to Sport.
The midfielder has already been left out of first-team pre-season training, despite being a regular last season, but will also not be called up for Barca B’s first pre-season friendly on Friday either.
Barca’s financial problems are part of the problem, while there has also been talk of Moriba’s “high demands” after recently switching representatives.
The situation had alread led to rumors that Premier League clubs Manchester City and Chelsea are interested in taking advantage of the situation. There’s even been speculation that both clubs could even offer to double the teenager’s salary.
Barca seem keen to keep hold of Moriba, particularly after he broke into the first team last season, but if an agreement can’t be found then the club may have little choice but to sell to the highest bidder.
