The left-back moves to the Premier League
Barcelona confirmed on Tuesday that Junior Firpo has joined Premier League side Leeds United on a four-year deal for a fee of €15 million.
The 24-year-old leaves after two years at the Camp Nou where he’s featured as back-up to Jordi Alba and spent most of his time on the bench.
Firpo has managed only 41 appearances in all competitions for the club since arriving from Real Betis in the summer of 2019.
Here’s Barcelona’s official statement:
“FC Barcelona and Leeds United have reached an agreement for the transfer of Junior Firpo for 15 million euros. Barça will retain 20% of any future sale of the player.
“The Club would like to publicly thank Junior Firpo for his commitment and dedication and wishes him all the best for the future.”
Junior becomes the latest Barcelona player to leave the club as the Catalan giants try desperately to trim the wage bill to comply with La Liga restrictions.
Konrad de la Fuente, Francisco Trincao, and Jean-Clair Todibo have also moved on, while midfielder Matheus Fernandes had his contract terminated.
More players are expected to leave before the start of the new season. Barca’s first game is set for August 15 at home to Real Sociedad.
