The youngster’s Camp Nou future is uncertain
Riqui Puig’s future continues to make headlines and the latest update comes from Mundo Deportivo who report Barcelona will explore the possibility of sending the youngster out on loan to Ajax.
The 21-year-old apparently wants to stay at the Camp Nou but Barca and Ronald Koeman continue to think that the best thing for his development would be to go out on loan and play regularly.
A meeting is planned with Puig’s father and agent to discuss the future, and it seems likely the name of Ajax could crop up. There’s no offer from the Dutch side but Koeman thinks Erik ten Hag’s team would be perfect for the midfielder.
It seems if Puig does dig his heels in and insist on staying we simply won’t see much of him in 2020-21. Koeman wants to play a double pivot system with Frenkie de Jong, Sergio Busquets and Miralem Pjanic competing for the two spots.
Meanwhile, further forward Puig would be battling stars such as Philippe Coutinho, Lionel Mess, Antoine Griezmann and possibly even new arrival Pedri for a place.
The youngster therefore looks like having a tough decision to make before the close of the transfer window.
