The manager didn’t plan it this way, however
Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has given his approval to the prospective signings of Antoine Griezmann (Atlético Madrid) and Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain), according to Diario SPORT.
The coach is “ready to assume the challenge of lining them up together,” per the report, after taking some time to think about it once told of the negotiations.
He will have to manage a dressing room full of stars, not to mention an XI filled to the brim with offensive talent, for which he will have to find a way to keep defensive balance at the same time.
The capture of either star has not come to pass, although Griezmann’s signing is seen as more straightforward since he has a release clause.
Valverde had already approved the signing of the Frenchman last season, a player who then took Barça by surprise by rebuffing them at the last moment. However, the manager and club both still feel he’s a good fit for the team, particularly because they think his selfless style can make him fit in the middle, even playing towards the center circle, according to SPORT. Thus they reportedly don’t see a problem with fitting him alongside Neymar, who will play on the left.
In order to raise funds and allow everyone to have enough minutes, it is rumored that Valverde and the club are looking for exits for some players, with Coutinho, Ousmane Dembélé, and Malcom heading for possible exits.
