The boss has high hopes for his new signings
Ernesto Valverde has welcomed his players back to pre-season training ahead of the new campaign and reckons his stars have “come back in good shape.”
The 55-year-old also has some new faces to work with for the coming campaign and spoke about what he’s hoping Frenkie de Jong and Antoine Griezmann can bring to the club.
“[De Jong] is a player who last year and in recent years has been playing at a high level. Last year he had a great season as did his whole team and we hope he can give us some fresh energy in the midfield which can only be good for us. We are building for the future. He’s a player with years ahead of him. He’s a quality player and we know he has a little bit of our playing style in him.
“Griezmann is different than De Jong because he’s a player with more experience, especially in La Liga. He’s a player who fills spaces quickly and is decisive near the goal and we know how much a player like that costs and what a player like that is worth and what he gives you in return. We have high hopes for him because he is young but with experience and that leads us to expect him to perform right away. “

Barcelona jet off to Japan at the weekend for games against Chelsea and Vissel Kobe next week, and we should see both Griezmann and De Jong make their Barcelona debuts in the friendlies.
