Kluivert set for return amid restructuring
FC Barcelona’s director of football, Pep Segura, will leave in the coming days amid a restructuring at the highest levels of the club, according to ESPN.
Éric Abidal will take over his responsibilities, alongside assistant Ramon Planes.
Meanwhile, former Barça striker Patrick Kluivert is set for a return to the club after being let go by Cameroon, where he was an assistant to Clarence Seedorf. He is said to be on the verge of taking on a job within the Barcelona academy. His relationship with club president Josep Maria Bartomeu is good, and the report says negotiations have been accelerated.
Meanwhile, Segura is said to have had a bad relationship with the board, which only worsened after last season’s elimination at the hands of Liverpool from the UEFA Champions League.
Reports of a power struggle between Segura and manager Ernesto Valverde circulated earlier in the summer. It seems Valverde has emerged as the victor from that particular struggle.
